GSMA ANNOUNCES NOMINEES FOR 0 GLOBAL MOBILE AWARDS

Legendary Comedian, Actor and Writer John Cleese to Host 2015 Awards Ceremony at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

London: The GSMA today announced the nominees for the 2015 Global Mobile Awards, which are this year celebrating 20 years of achievement and innovation across the mobile industry. World-renowned actor, comedian, writer and film producer John Cleese will host the Global Mobile Awards ceremony on Tuesday, 3rd March at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We are delighted to announce the nominees as we celebrate the 20th year of Global Mobile Awards, said Michael O'Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA. With a new record of over 800 entries, the Global Mobile Awards are, as always, hugely competitive and reflect the dynamic pace of growth and evolution in digital communications. Congratulations to all those shortlisted today and many thanks to our judges who have an almost impossible task selecting the nominees from such high-calibre and exciting entries.

The 2015 Global Mobile Awards will honour more than 40 winners over nine categories that include awards for Best Mobile Handsets & Devices , Best Mobile Apps , Best Mobile Services , Best Mobile Technology and Social & Economic Development and will also feature many new awards that showcase emerging trends in the mobile ecosystem. These include awards for wearable technologies, affordable smartphones, the Internet of Things and sectors such as retail and automotive, amongst others.

In addition, two new special awards have been introduced to mark the 20th anniversary of the Global Mobile Awards, including the Young Mobile Innovator of the Year specifically designed to showcase young and exciting new talent, and the Connected Women: Leadership in Industry award that will recognise initiatives that attract and retain women and girls in mobile and telecommunications.

The Global Mobile Awards will kick off with the presentation of the Government Mobile Excellence Awards on Tuesday, 3rd March. These awards, which recognise world-class leadership, will be announced at the GSMA's Ministerial Programme and will include the Government Leadership Award and the Spectrum for Mobile Broadband Award .

The Global Mobile Awards afternoon ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 3rd March at 2.30 pm in Hall 4, Auditorium 1. This year's host, John Cleese, is best known for his involvement in film and TV productions including Monty Python's Flying Circus , Fawlty Towers , Monty Python and the Holy Grail , Monty Python's Life of Brian , and A Fish Called Wanda , as well as two James Bond films and the Harry Potter series, amongst many others. The awards ceremony is open to Mobile World Congress attendees from all shortlisted companies, regardless of pass type, as well as all other Mobile World Congress attendees holding Platinum, Gold, Silver or Press/Analyst passes.

On Wednesday, 4th March the shortlist for the Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2015 will be selected from those on show at the event. The shortlist will be revealed on Mobile World Live TV, as well as the Global Mobile Awards website, with the overall winner honoured in a live presentation on Mobile World Live TV the following day.

The Global Mobile Awards are judged by more than 300 independent experts, analysts, journalists, academics, and in some cases, mobile operator representatives. The winner of the Outstanding Overall Mobile Technology - The CTOs' Choice award will be selected by a panel of more than 17 industry-leading CTOs from the worldwide operator community. These include CTOs from Am rica M vil, AT&T, Cable & Wireless, Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Meteor, Oi, Orange, PCCW, Singtel, SK Telecom, Smartfren, Telef nica, Three, Turkcell and Vodafone.

Award Winners to Join the MMIX

To reflect the explosive growth of music on mobile, the GSMA recently launched the MMIX at Mobile World Congress, which includes an official event party as well as a new music-based forum as part of the 4 Years From Now programme. The MMIX party will have exciting line-up up of musical performances including a headline DJ set by platinum-selling artist Rudimental, and to celebrate their success, winners of the Global Mobile Awards will have the opportunity to join the MMIX party on Tuesday 3rd March at Fira Montju c.
