TVBAwards: the Special Awards nominees

At this time next week the TVBEurope team will be busy making final preparations for the first ever TVBAwards, taking place at the Hilton London Wembley. We've already profiled the nominated projects and companies across the Workflow, Capture and Delivery categories, so this week the spotlight is on the Special Awards.

Three winners will be announced at the event on 23 October, taking home the Sustainability, Marketing and Outstanding Broadcast awards, and Dr David Wood will be at the ceremony to collect his Lifetime Achievement honour.

The Sustainability award will celebrate the company making the most significant contribution toward ensuring a liveable future. BAFTA Albert Consortium has been nominated for its Albert+ mark of sustainability, which indicates that a programme has taken steps to reduce its environmental impact during production. Also up for the award are: St Poelten University of Applied Sciences for SHOWroom: streaming the future today, a live web TV production to support the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013 Team Austria; Disk Archive Corporation for ALTO-II Archive and Content Library, which boasts power-consumption savings and outstanding environmental credentials'; and Zenit Arti Audiovisive for Last Call, a documentary telling the story of controversial environmentalist bestseller, The Limits to Growth.

The TVBAwards aims to recognise excellence across the broadcast industry, including those working to promote campaigns and projects. The Doctor Who: Save the Day campaign has led to the nomination of BBC/BBC World Service, and Cinegy is also in the running for its SDI Must Die campaign. This has featured in magazines across Europe, North America, South America and Russia, with an onsite campaign at events including IBC2013 and NAB 2014. Karmarama/Red Bee have been nominated for WW1 on the BBC and also shortlisted is Phabrix, for its Hands campaign, designed to introduce a new handheld portable device into the broadcast market.

Nominated entries in the Outstanding Broadcast category are as diverse as the Sochi Olympic and Paralympic coverage (Channel 4) and the Vienna State Opera live streaming (Elemental Technologies), though all demonstrate truly exceptional effort, skill and dedication to the broadcast industry and nominated project. CTV, in conjunction with Presteigne Broadcast Hire, and David Attenborough/Colossus Productions have also been nominated for the top honour, for The Boat Race, and Natural History Museum Alive 3D, respectively.

Tickets for the event, during which winners will be announced and awards bestowed, are still available. The night will open with a drinks reception, followed by dinner, awards ceremony and an after party, and will provide a great chance to relax with friends, network with colleagues, and celebrate the top talent in broadcast.
