Schaeffler honors its best suppliers

Schaeffler expects excellent quality, reliability, competitive cost structures, service, innovation and global presence from its suppliers. The companys 14 best suppliers were presented with the Schaeffler Supplier Award for their performance in 2013 during a special ceremony.

Schaeffler has 73 manufacturing locations that receive production material from around 1,300 suppliers all over the globe. 80 suppliers from 22 countries who have been carrying out excellent work during the last few years were invited to Herzogenaurach by Schaeffler AG. The 14 best suppliers were chosen in a preliminary selection process. Oliver Jung, Chief Operating Officer, Michael Hartig, Executive Vice President Corporate Purchasing Schaeffler, and Andreas Knoll, Senior Vice President Corporate Purchasing Direct Material, thanked the companies for their excellent work and presented the awards to:

In his presentation, Mr. Jung discussed the expectations and opportunities for collaboration with suppliers. Our strategic suppliers play an important role in the Schaeffler production system and support Schaeffler in achieving its high targets in terms of quality, costs and delivery reliability. With this aim, Schaeffler and its best suppliers will dovetail more closely in future in order to reduce inventories and throughput times along the entire supply chain.

Strategic supplier status also offers suppliers the opportunity of becoming a Premium Supplier of Continental AG and Schaeffler AG.

Michael Hartig emphasized in his speech: You are here today because we can depend on your long-standing partnership. Our aim is to collaborate with the best suppliers. We are achieving success together thanks to your delivery reliability, compliance with quality standards, your competitive cost structures and the optimization of the supply chain. This requires technical knowledge, specialization and qualifications in all areas from the suppliers.

Schaeffler will have purchased production material, and steel in particular, components, and modules at a value of around 4.5 billion in 2014. This corresponds to approximately 65 percent of the total purchasing volume (without investment).

The Schaeffler Supplier Awards for production materials are presented every two years - alternately with the Premium Supplier Awards as part of the purchasing cooperation with Continental AG.
