The 5 Hispasats Amazonas is already in space Thrown aboard a rocket Proton Breeze M from Baikonur, the new satellite, which will occupy the orbital position of 61 West will provide a wide range of services of telecommunications to the Latin American market.
HISPASAT, the Spanish telecommunications satellite operator, has launched successfully, at 21:23 last night, Spanish time, its eleventh satellite, 5 Amazon, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, on Board of the company Proton Breeze M launch vehicle International Launch Services (ILS).
Approximately 9 hours and 12 minutes after the takeoff of the rocket it was the separation of the satellite Amazonas 5 of the launch vehicle, and proceeded to its initialization and the deployment of the solar panels. Starting from there, began maneuvers to position the new satellite at the point of the geostationary orbit where testing will take place to verify its correct operation, which will last several weeks. Once testing is complete, the satellite will be located in its final orbital position of 61 West. The satellite will be operated by the Brazilian subsidiary of the company, Hispamar.
The launch of 5 Amazon taken on the same day that, 25 years ago, the company launched from French Guiana, the first Spanish telecommunications space satellite, Hispasat 30W-1 (Hispasat 1A), which was also put into orbit an 11 September .
Carlos Espin s, CEO of the Spanish operator, said that "for HISPASAT, this new satellite is the reaffirmation of the international vocation of the company and, in particular, of our commitment to the Latin American market. We have spent many years working in this region and we have gained a wealth of experience and extensive knowledge of the needs of clients in these countries. For this reason we have designed a totally dedicated to Latin American satellite and adapted to the demands of this market, both for the audiovisual sector to offer solutions of mobility and connectivity in residential, corporate segments".
5 Amazon is based on the platform of 1300 of Space Systems Loral (SSL) and has a power of 9.9 kW and an estimated useful life of 15 years. The flexibility afforded by 5 Amazonas and its great technological capabilities allow you to offer a wide range of communication services.
Its 24 transponders in Ku-band with coverage of Central and South America, provide television services direct to home (DTH) of high performance. 5 Amazon will allow providers of television services operating with the Hispasat transmit 500 new channels, which will consolidate 61 West as the leading position in dissemination of these services in Latin America. This satellite will be key, too, to boost TV at 4K in the region.
It has also embarked 34 beams in Ka-band to provide connectivity services to more than half a million people in several major countries of Central America and the South. In addition, 5 Amazon will offer operators in the region access to Internet via satellite efficient and competitive, as well as transport and backhaul services to deploy their 3 G and LTE, and even 5 G cellular networks.
This new satellite been designed, manufactured and tested in the facilities of SSL in Palo Alto, California (USA). An important representation of the Spanish industry has participated in their manufacture: as Thales Alenia Space Espa a, Airbus Defense & Space, Tryo, DAS Photonic, Iberespacio, GMV and Indra.
Innovation
HISPASAT, faithful to its innovative vocation and the support provided to the Spanish industry, has embarked on the Amazon 5, in tests, a completely experimental load developed by DAS Photonics. Its an optical distributor of radio frequency, prototype of a system that may be important especially in satellites that carry Ka-band since being multibeam missions, require a very high number of receivers.
