INDUSTRY ALERT 0: Super documentary delegation headed to Malaysia for Asian Side of the Doc

Screen Australia today announced the recipients of the first round of its Enterprise Asia program, supporting seven production companies to be part of an Australian delegation at Asian Side of the Doc in Kuala Lumpur from 19 to 22 March 2013.

The production company recipients are:

Beyond Screen Production / Iguana Films - Ron Saunders and Jennifer Ainge

Big Stories Co. - Martin Potter and Anna Grieve

Bower Birds Films - Pat Fiske and Amin Palangi

Mago Films - Alun Bartsch and Marian Bartsch

Media Stockade - Rebecca Barry and Ester Harding

Moonshine Agency - Mike Hill and Sue Collins.

We are delighted to support these documentary production companies to attend Asian Side of the Doc as part of the Australian delegation. The style of programs they are producing traverses feature documentaries, factual series and multi-platform projects and their combined slates and plans will be extremely appealing to the Asian market, said Screen Australia's Chief Executive, Ruth Harley. Dr Harley added, I understand that several of the state agencies will also soon be announcing opportunities for emerging producers to be part of the delegation.

Screen Australia's Enterprise Asia program supports screen businesses that have viable plans for building their company relationships and their slate in Asia. This may include the development of targeted Asian co-productions, seeking co-financing from partners such as broadcasters in the region, or building working relationships with other screen companies.

Funding of up to $10,000 is provided to support company producers' travel costs as part of the Australian delegation, as well as development costs to present projects to potential partners in the region.

Asian Side of the Doc is the most important co-production meeting for documentary professionals in Asia. Bringing together producers, distributors and broadcasters, Asian Side of the Doc offers a platform to build strong professional and international networks, to promote deals and presales for programs in production and to initiate new co-production projects.

The Australian delegation is the largest contingent of documentary producers to attend a documentary market in the Asian region and will also include representatives from Screen Australia, broadcasters, sales companies and production companies attending outside of the Enterprise Asia program funding round. Chris Oliver from Screen Australia will lead the delegation.
