Press Release: ToolsOnAir Launches New Version 5.1 of just:in ingest solutions and Version 3.5 of its just:live and just:play playout solutions.
Vienna, Austria, December 17th, 2021 - ToolsOnAir today unveiled version 5.1 of their acclaimed macOS and Linux -based just:in baseband ingest solutions and version 3.5 of just:live and just:play playout solutions, featuring native Apple Silicon support, additional functionalities and many improvements requested by customers and in line with current industry standards.
What's New in just:in mac and just: linux version 5.1:
just:in mac version 5.1 is ToolsOnAir's macOS-based client-server ingest solution designed to capture SDI, HDMI, NDI 5, multicamera, and VTR sources using industry-standard Crash, Batch, or Schedule recording modes.
New with version 5.1 of just:in mac is the highly requested HDR metadata support (HLG and PQ transfer characteristics) for Apple ProRes 422 HQ / MOV recording workflows in combination with either AJA or Blackmagic Design video input devices. Based on the highly valued feedback of our customers and partners, we further improved our Schedule mode by moving the Calendar section from the Channel Settings into the Channel Inspector, making it even more efficient and flexible to use.
To increase operational reliability, the ability to lock parts of the just:control interface was extended by introducing the ability to lock the complete user interface to prevent any unintended user interactions. By unanimous request, a well-known feature from older just:in mac versions, namely LTC over Audio In has found its way back into just:in mac version 5.1. This handy feature allows you to use a Line in USB adapter to sync all the recording channels with an external LTC timecode source over an audio input and facilitates the workflow also for multicamera ISO-recording use.
With the latest release of just:in mac 5.1, we have laid the foundation for current and future Apple hardware and software versions and thus confirmed our repeated commitment to the Apple platform. just:in mac 5.1 is now macOS Monterey (12.x) certified and fully qualified to run natively on the new Apple Silicon architecture. The combination of this highly efficient and powerful new system architecture from Apple and our professional ingest solution offers many advantages and benefits to both our customers and our future innovations. Version 5.1 will still support macOS Catalina (10.15.x) and macOS Big Sur (11.x) to ensure full deployment flexibility and safeguard our customer's investment in our solutions. says Christian Schabasser, Senior Ingest Product Manager at ToolsOnAir.
In combination with Sonnet Technologies' new DuoModo Expansion Systems, just:in mac version 5.1 is the ideal solution to capture multiple HD channels and one UHD on a single Mac mini, when using a qualified container/codec combination. This highly efficient hardware and software bundle is the ideal solution for budget-sensitive, yet professional broadcast ingest operations.
Among many improvements, just:in linux version 5.1 introduces the ability to mix and match different video modes, formats, and frame rates. This enables our customers to mix HD and UHD channel formats (3G-SDI, 3G-Quad-Split, 3G-TSI) and allows them to use different frame rates for different channels. This makes just:in linux even more customisable for various demanding recording workflows. In addition to that version 5.1 of just:in linux adds the highly requested HDR metadata support (HLG and PQ transfer characteristics) for Apple ProRes 422 HQ / MOV recording workflows in combination with AJA video input devices.
What's New in just:live / just:play version 3.5 and composition:builder version 5.0:
With version 3.5 of our playout solutions just:live and just:play, we have introduced native Apple Silicon and macOS Monterey support, underpinning our repeated commitment to the Apple platform and safeguarding our customer's investment in our solutions which is paramount to us. This means that all our playout solutions will run natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Mac hardware. In line with our ingest solutions, version 3.5 will still support macOS Catalina (10.15.x) and macOS Big Sur (11.x) to ensure full deployment flexibility.
We are very happy with the outcome of version 3.5 of just:live / just:play and composition:builder version 5.0, providing the long awaited Apple Silicon support as well as many useful additions to simplify and extend daily playout workflows. All our playout solutions will run natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Mac hardware. In line with our ingest solutions, version 3.5 of just:live / just:play and composition:builder version 5.0 will still support macOS Catalina (10.15.x) and macOS Big Sur (11.x) to ensure full deployment flexibility. says Georg Deisting, Senior Playout Product Manager at ToolsOnAir.
Among many usability improvements and stability enhancements that will benefit daily operations, version 3.5 of just:live and just:play features native UHDp60 playout support for qualified AJA and Blackmagic Design devices on Apple Silicon hardware, extended HTTP events to include both GET and POST methods to support more web services, full support for frame-accurate SCTE104 Splice Events, by inserting SCTE-104 events into the VANC data of the SDI output signal, a new channel configuration panel with an additional Failover tab allowing you to define the event presets that should be executed when the channel is in either Primary , Redundant or Failover state, support for hardware genlock for AJA devices and reference LTC timecode to sync the master time via audio input or AJA's LTC input port, an improved handling to restore window positions and last but not least a new version 5.0 of our real-time graphics template creator composi
