PSL: Pitso happy Champions League experience is paying off

Mamelodi Sundowns may have dropped points, thus suffering a further setback with their title aspirations, but coach Pitso Mosimane credited Champions League experience for the manner his charges handled themselves in the crunch encounter against Bidvest Wits on Saturday.

In a top-of-the-table clash at Bidvest Stadium, the two sides had to settle for a share of the spoils after Gift Motupa's strike in the half-hour mark cancelled out ex-Clever Boy, Phakamani Mahlambi's seventh minute opener.

This saw the Brazilians slip a spot down to third on the log, following Orlando Pirates' 4-1 victory over AmaZulu later on in the night.

Mosimane was, however, unfazed as he opted not to dwell on a missed opportunity to top the log, instead praising his side on their tactical awareness throughout the contest.

It was a big game, a difficult game for us. I think the boys were tactically superior. We know the strength of Wits.

We dealt with the crosses and tried to limit the crosses from the side then we can deal with the free-kicks.

Then, we left the two centre-backs with the ball and we managed. The players showed that they are a Champions League team. Five years in the Champions League.

Pitso Mosimane Mosimane's Wits counterpart, Gavin Hunt did not share similar sentiments as far as his own side was concerned, as he expressed frustration over a lack of composure in front of goal.

We just didn't have the final touch and the final pass (to finish off the game) he said.

Our final pass wasn't good enough but we still should have won the game.

We had more than enough chances even when they still had eleven men in the first half.

We had chances there and we didn't score.

Gavin Hunt The next opponent for both sides is Cape Town City, with Sundowns getting a first stab at them on Wednesday before Wits take them on on Saturday.
