Bidvest Wits should be champions Gavin Hunt

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes that defensive failures at critical points in the season robbed his club of the ABSA Premiership title.

Wits finished third in the league with a total of 54 points but Hunt feels his side should have achieved a mark of 60 points which would have been enough to claim the PSL title. It would have been a record-breaking fifth PSL title for Hunt as a manager but as it stands Pitso Mosimane joined him and Gordon Igesund on four apiece.

Disappointed, very disappointed because we know we should've won this league, we were top of the log for more than three quarters. We threw it away, we didn't have good defensive performances in key moments, Hunt explained in an interview with Kick Off.

In the first round we had 30 points and I told the guys if we can get another 30 in the second round and reach 60 we can be champions. That was proven right we should be champions.

Hunt offered praise for League winners Sundowns and their coach Mosimane.

I wish them well, Pitso has done well, the team keeps growing not only here but in Africa as well.

Hunt slammed the PSL's handling of the Wayne Arendse saga. Sundowns fielded the defender in the 1-1 draw with Wits early in the season but only received a judgement and sanction in the final week of the season. That judgement is likely to be appealed meaning there is a possibility that Sundowns could be stripped of the trophy they lifted on 11 May.

There are still court cases, we don't really know what's gonna happen, it's mind blowing. Team lifts a trophy today and it could be taken away. We should never have such, this issue should've been resolved before the last games, he added.

Wits third place in the league secured them a place in continental competition. They will compete in next season's Caf Confederations Cup.
