About the project

The broadcast media sector faces a complex, fast moving set of sustainability challenges, yet despite these challenges, there is currently little industry conversation or response in this space. The "Lens to Screen" project is a cross-industry collaboration that aims to explore the future sustainability trends that are likely to impact the broadcast and media industry, and build a shared understanding of what the longer-term future of the industry could look like.

The project is intended to identify the key future sustainability trends and their impacts on the broadcast industry out to 2025. These will then be used to catalyse collaborative innovations across the industry. This overarching aim of the project is to build a long-term foundation for a sustainable broadcasting industry.

Who is involved?

BBC, BT and the IABM are the founding members of the Lens to Screen collaboration. Forum for the Future the independent facilitator of this process - is a sustainable development organisation which works in partnership with over 120 leading organisations in business and the public sector. Thinking about the future underpins Forum for the Future's approach to promoting sustainable development. They develop future scenarios and visions of more sustainable products, services, organisations and places, in their work with the business and public sectors.

First steps?

Forum for the Future will be conducting a series of interviews with member companies to determine the current status and sentiment towards sustainability. The input to these will be treated confidentially in order to encourage a frank and open discussion. If you would like to contribute, please get in touch with us.

In March this year a workshop will be held at the BBC to which all member companies are invited. This workshop will review the results of the interviews and evaluate how to make further progress towards a more sustainable industry.

The IABM will also be contributing the results from our own Sustainability Survey which can be accessed here

We would encourage all members to contribute to this survey as we build up the global knowledge and understanding. All results and conclusions will be made available to members as a resource for benchmarking and action.
