South African all-star riller makes its world premiere at DIFF

Assignment, a geo-political thriller by writer/director Laszlo Bene is making its World Premiere at the Durban International Film Festival. The film is a provocative statement-movie that focuses on a very current and important issue both locally and globally, the continued erosion of media freedom.

In her most challenging role yet, Sandi Schultz plays an internationally-renowned conflict journalist, who returns to Johannesburg with injuries sustained on assignment in the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, more disturbing than her physical wounds, is the shocking story she has uncovered; one which may yet destroy her. She obsessively strives to publish her findings, but her blind commitment to investigative journalism is in sharp conflict with her instincts of survival, forcing her to make choices that will determine not only her own fate, but that of those around her.

The film also stars Gert Van Niekerk, David Dennis, Jonathan Pienaar and Dirk Stoltz, with Nick Boraine, Justin Strydom, Anthony Oseyemi, Peter Terry, Johan Baird, Hanli Rolfes and Nicholas Van Der Bijl in supporting roles. Set in the urban sprawl that is Johannesburg in the 21st Century, Assignment is written and produced by Laszlo Bene and Sandi Schultz through their production companies Mind Fox Productions and Klonkie Made Media in association with AFDA.

The film will be distributed locally by Indigenous Film Distribution.
