Umkhokha viewers were left puzzled on Sunday (10 Sunday) when the show aired an episode of MamZobe's (Deli Malinga) husband demanding her to whip her deceased daughter.

The couple found their deceased daughter's body hanging on the ceiling after she hanged herself with a rope.

Viewers on Twitter explained that their daughter had to be whipped because she committed suicide.

UMKHOKHA' VIEWERS CLARIFY Fans of the show also stated that the whipping is performed so that the deceased can crossover peacefully so the ancestors can accept her.

Another viewer stated that the whipping is performed so that it cannot be repeated by another family member.

MamZobe's husband (Difa played by Sibonile Ngubane) believes that the whipping will break the pattern and the curse will be broken.

The episode also triggered viewers that lost their loved ones to suicide and shocked viewers who did not understand why someone who hanged themselves had to be whipped.

UMKHOKHA' PRODUCER EXPLAINS THE EPISODE Mandla kaNoZulu who is the producer of the show stated that the purpose of the episode was to mirror society and to provoke scrutiny.

KaNoZulu also stated that the episode was meant to teach society about itself.

It is very interesting that many people have been asking the meaning of umkhokha and how to deal with it after the episode.

He feels that the show is achieving its goal of having society discuss a matter that is mostly treated privately and many people have no idea how to deal with it.

The producer also told Daily Sun that it is common to whip the body of someone who has committed suicide as a way of ensuring the act does not become a vicious cycle in the family.

KaNozulu also said that it is feared and believed that if one doesn't perform this, umkhokha (bad luck) will follow the family.
