The NFVF Macufe Film Week returns

Running for the third time, the NFVF Macufe film week is a platform for filmmakers and students in the Province to gain knowledge on various aspects of filmmaking. The film week programme includes various workshops on scriptwriting, producing and directing. The facilitators of these workshops will be Lillian Dube, Mmabatho Kau, Bonginhlanhla Ncube and Mutodi Neshehe. This year the festival added a performance workshop, with the objective of guiding aspiring filmmakers on how to approach the performances.

There will also be screenings of local feature films such as GogHelen, Fanie Fouries Lobola, Zama Zama and Khumba which will be screened on the opening night. Some of the screenings will be followed by the Q and A sessions which will give people attending an opportunity to ask questions about screened films.

We are very happy to once again partner with the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in bringing the NFVF Macufe Film Week. The initiative has been a huge success in the past two years and we are confident that it will continue to grow and achieve even greater impact this year. Macufe has proven to be a perfect fit for us as the festival is a broader space for creative industries which then makes it easier to also drive audience development for film, says Aifheli Makhwanya, Head of Policy and Research who is currently also the Acting Head of Marketing and Communications at NFVF.

Ms Makhwanya adds that one of the bigger plans is to see a film office being established in the region. This will assist the local filmmakers as it would be representing them, as well as assisting in ensuring that the region becomes one of the preferred film cities in the country.

Entrance to the workshops and screenings is free, all aspiring filmmakers and students in the Free State are invited to attend. Except for the opening night, the programme at the workshops will start at 10h00 everyday for the duration of the film week.
