Screen Australia announces Head of Production and Head of Legal Services

After an extensive domestic and international search, Screen Australia today announced the appointment of Sally Caplan as Head of Production and Jane Supit as Head of Legal Services.

Sally Caplan has over 25 years of international experience in the screen production industry. She is a highly respected and seasoned senior executive whose roles have covered all aspects of financing, development, acquisition, production and distribution. Sally began her career as a solicitor specialising in entertainment law. In her most recent role as Managing Director of Entertainment One (EOne), she oversaw its international film sales operations out of the UK. Before joining EOne, Sally headed the Premiere Fund of the UK Film Council for five years, where she was responsible for funding and overseeing the production from script stage of over 45 films, including titles such as The King's Speech, Miss Potter and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Prior to joining the UK Film Council, Sally held senior acquisition, distribution and production positions at Icon Film Distribution, Momentum Pictures and Universal Pictures International.

Jane Supit joins Screen Australia as Head of Legal Services, having acted in the role, seconded from the Australian Government Solicitor (AGS), since August 2013. Since completing her law degree at ANU and Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney with a double major in fine arts including film studies, Jane has practised in commercial law specialising in technology and ICT projects, intellectual property, legal risk advising, funding, probity, governance and compliance. At AGS Jane was a senior lawyer and the team leader of the Sydney commercial team. She has worked on many significant projects for the Australian Government and was awarded an Australia Day award for her work on the bank guarantee scheme during the GFC.

Sally is a highly respected and seasoned veteran in the international film industry whose roles have covered all aspects of the business from creative to commercial. Her tremendous amount of knowledge and expertise is a huge asset to Screen Australia. Having spent five years in a similar role at the UK Film Council, she has been extremely successful in combining her strong creative, commercial and business acumen within a government body.

Jane has a great breadth of experience in working within a government framework and her solid commercial experience and specialist knowledge in intellectual property issues in the area of information communication technology will be invaluable to Screen Australia as the screen industry increasingly moves to multi-platform formats. She has a great passion for the screen production industry, and together with the committed team of entertainment law specialists at the agency led by Jane, I believe our Legal Services department is a great asset to the industry, said Mr Mason.

Sally Caplan will begin in the role of Head of Production sometime early in the new year, following relocating from the UK. Jane Supit will officially commence in the role of Head of Legal Services from 10 December.
