National Geographic s Digital Nomad Andrew Evans Embarks on Alberta, Canada, Adventure

WASHINGTON (Aug. 20, 2013)-Andrew Evans, National Geographic Traveler magazine's Digital Nomad, has embarked on a two-week journey to bring summer in Alberta, Canada, to his community of digital travelers. Throughout the trip, he will tweet, blog, vlog and Instagram on NationalGeographic.com's Digital Nomad blog, his Twitter and Instagram feeds @WheresAndrew and his Where's Andrew Facebook page. New to this trip, he will also post daily video Web episodes that will be compiled into a full travel show at the end of the trip.

Western Canada is a vast and wild space, built from endless prairies and the gargantuan Canadian Rockies, said Evans. I'm thrilled to spend the next two weeks roaming freely through Alberta's landscape and look forward to discovering its nature and people.

Evans will explore the hidden side of Calgary beyond the oil. He will search for grizzly bears near Banff and dig for dinosaur bones in the mysterious Badlands. He looks forward to driving the old Alberta cowboy trail through the rugged West and connecting with his inner cowboy. He'll wrap up the trip with a visit to the largest Ukrainian community outside of the Ukraine.

Evans is a veteran travel writer for National Geographic Traveler magazine and National Geographic's Intelligent Travel blog. To kick off 2013, Evans journeyed to Tanzania, where he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro; took a trip to the Gal pagos Islands; and explored his heritage in Texas. He is just back from his latest trip to Montana, where he hiked, fly-fished and fiddled his way through the national parks, glassy rivers and small towns. In 2012, he went Around the World by Private Jet with National Geographic Expeditions; explored Switzerland's diverse cantons, foods and languages; traveled through Norway's biggest cities; and uncovered Maya mysteries in Mexico. He also went to South Africa and Malawi and was one of the first to report the death of Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika.

In 2011, he explored the best of Ontario, Canada; tweeted and blogged around Japan; and wined and dined his way through Louisiana, experiencing the best of the bayous and New Orleans. He finished the year skiing, snow-shoeing and trekking through western Canada's ski country with renowned mountaineers, ski instructors and naturalists.

In 2010, Evans journeyed from Washington, D.C., to Antarctica - a 10,000-mile trip through 14 countries - using public transportation as far as he could go. He rode buses to Ushuaia in Argentina, the southernmost city in the world, and then boarded the vessel National Geographic Explorer to Antarctica.
