RT 2fm Toy Appeal Records Record Donations 16 January 2013: Toy donations rise by 9000 for 2012 appeal as a record 65,000 toys are collected Cash equivalent means over 1,000,000 worth of toys donated to children in Ireland

The 2012 RT 2fm Toy Appeal for St Vincent de Paul in association with SuperValu saw some 65,000 toys donated and distributed to families in need over the Christmas period; an increase of 9,000 on the 56,000 toys collected during last year's appeal.

The toys donated have been calculated to have a cash equivalent of over 1,000,000.

Amidst tough economic times, the generosity of the Irish public has shone through as an unprecedented amount of toys were handed in to the 195 drop-off points at SuperValu stores nationwide and donated online www.2fm.ie/toyappeal and www.svp.ie/toystore.

Led by 2fm presenters, including Ryan Tubridy, Hector hEochagain, Ruth Scott, Colm Hayes and Larry Gogan, 2fm Toy Appeal's wish for 2012 was that every child got a toy for Christmas.

Ryan Tubridy says: The figures this year speak volumes about the generosity of the Irish public. Even during times as tough as these, people have dug deep and helped to put smiles on the faces of children who might otherwise have had nothing to wake up to on Christmas morning. I'm delighted to have been involved in the 2fm Toy Appeal again.

John McMahon, Head of RT 2fm, says: This year we are absolutely blown away by the generosity of RT 2fm listeners. To have increased the 2fm Toy Appeal for the St. Vincent de Paul total by 12% in this climate is simply incredible. Full marks to all involved.
