HBS PROVIDES CONSULTANCY TO UCI, RCN - 04/03/2014 A year ago, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the governing body for world cycling, contracted HBS to provide broadcast consultancy and support for its Track Cycling World Championships in Minsk, Belarus. In keeping with the company's established practice of using specialists of a given sport, HBS appointed Steve Docherty, a TV director with significant experience in both road and track cycling, as its main consultant. The collaboration proved effective, and was therefore renewed for this year's recently concluded edition in Cali, Colombia. HBS production personnel joined UCI and Infront Sports & Media representatives for a track cycling workshop in late 2013 to begin preparing the event.

Radio Cadena Nacional (RCN) was the host broadcaster of this year's World Championships. The Colombian company has significant experience with major events - including the World Games 2013, which also took place in Cali and for which it also served as the host broadcaster. Nonetheless, RCN had never covered track cycling before and was aware that the sport requires a specific production plan in order to convey its speed and carefully plotted tactics. Steve worked closely with one of RCN's production teams to help them master track cycling's intricacies, and was delighted with the results.

It was a real pleasure for me to work with such an excellent group of people, said Steve. They were intelligent and hard working, and the whole group wanted to do a good job. They put in the necessary hours to learn and rehearse without any complaints. And in the end what could have been a real challenge turned into a solid World Feed production and coverage. The whole project underlined how much can be achieved through proper training and motivation.
