Kunle Falodun named VP Distribution Africa for Sony Pictures TV --

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) today named Kunle Falodun as vice president Distribution Africa.

Reporting to Mark Young, senior vice president Distribution UK, Africa, Ireland and Iberia, Falodun will help drive SPT s ambitions for the continent. Falodun moved into the newly-created post at the beginning of July and will be based out of the London office.

Falodun joins SPT from Distribution Africa, where he was head of Business Development overseeing the distribution of Econet Media s prime sports content on free to air television (Kwese Free TV) across Sub-Sahara Africa. Integral to the company s strategy of identifying local partners across the continent, he was also instrumental in developing and establishing a working commercial model for Kwese Free Sports Channel.

Mark Young said: Kunle has extensive knowledge of the African media landscape and has unrivalled experience across all areas of the business including content, distribution, local production, marketing and acquisition. As we continue to ramp up our efforts across the continent, no-one is better placed than Kunle to spearhead our development in this region.

Falodun said of his new appointment: I look forward to this new challenge with great anticipation and expectation. Sony is a great company with truly world class products and I am really positive and excited about what we can do on the continent of Africa over the next few years.

Falodun moved from Nigeria to the UK in 2004 as the Business Development director of Optima Sports Management International (OSMI), managing broadcast operations and international broadcast rights. He later became managing director of OSMI UK, handling several high-profile media projects including the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments, before moving to Econet Media in 2016.

Educated at the University of Ilorin in Nigeria, Falodun completed his MBA at the University of Bradford in the UK in 2012.
