Alan Parsons announces more recording courses in Santa Barbara, October 17-18

Following the success of the three-day recording and engineering masterclasses held at his state-of-the-art Parsonics studio in the hills above Santa Barbara, California, at the end of July, respected engineer and recording artist Alan Parsons has announced two new follow-up dates at the same location, focusing on mixing and recording respectively.

On Thursday October 17th, attendees at Parsonics will be able to watch Alan Parsons remix one of his own back-catalogue tracks, first playing the originally completed mix and then the individual tracks in isolation, and explaining to those present the stories behind the recording. Alan will then remix the composition from scratch using the technology currently at his disposal at Parsonics, in both surround and stereo, with the surround mix first, as is Alans preference. The track in question has yet to be chosen, but it will apparently be something well-known from the Alan Parsons back catalogue.

The following day, Friday October 18th, will focus on tracking and recording, with members from alt-rock band Toad The Wet Sprocket joining Alan in the studio for the day. In the morning, Alan will introduce the band, play the demo of the song being recorded that day, and undertake the recording of the basic backing track, comprising a rhythm section, keyboards and guitars. After lunch with Alan and the band, the track will be completed with instrumental and vocal overdubs, and a rough first mix undertaken.

Both days will run from 9.30am to 6.30pm, giving attendees the opportunity of watching one of the recording industrys greatest practitioners at work for an entire day at close range, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and become involved in the process. All meals and refreshments on both days will be provided as part of the price of the masterclasses: $899 for the October 17th Mix Day and $999 for the October 18th Recording Day.
