The Mad Hueys Embark on a Maiden (Heaven) Voyage with GoPro

There are a few things you learn right away when fishing with The Mad Hueys. One: there are no bananas allowed on the boat. Two: forget deep sea fishing with a few drinks; it's deep sea drinking with a few fish. And three: never ask about a Shoey - unless you'd like Captain Blackbeard himself to present you with an ice-cold brew served up in a ripe, fresh-off-the-foot boot.

If that's your style, then The Mad Hueys are your guys. The iconic Shoey is just one of the many traditions the fishermen/pro surfers/world-renowned partiers are known for. That being said, it should come as no surprise that the crew originated in a land known for a great beach culture and an even party scene - Australia. It really was a no brainer for the now infamous name to come to light when the three mates, Shaun Harrington, Damon Nichols and Joel Scott, entered their first fishing tournament on the Gold Coast.

As the boys explain it: It's more of a term where we used to call each other huey,' - Hey, huey whatve you been up to?' - but a huey' is an ocean god. And going into the comp, we needed to name our crew, so we became The Mad Hueys. It all went crazy from there.

A handful shirts soon turned into a few hundred for close friends, and, like any good fishing lore, the Hueys say the bites kept coming until they realized they didn't have to depend on surfing or 9-to-5s to make a living.

I guess the stars were aligned when it happened," Joel says. "We just posted our videos up on social media for fun, and people really seemed to like what we were doing so we kept just kept going with it."

Today, The Mad Hueys are a multi-million dollar company with a three-boat fleet, merch that makes any dude swoon and one of the most lush surf contests known to man - Komune Bali Pro. The only WSL-sanctioned event where judging and spectating are both done from a pool party overlooking the break, and the winners are awarded with frothy Golden Shoey trophies. Captain Blackbeard even said The Mad Huys originally emceed the event, but their language was a bit too colorful for the live stream.

The Huey's main presence hails, not surprisingly, from Oz with a strong following in the U.S (and sometime Canada and beyond). So while there are Hueys across the globe, the Aussie boys keep the core tight with the Hazza Twins, Damon Stamos Nichols, Captain Blackbeard (who comes from fishing lineage), pro bass fisherman Carl Jocumsen and their surf team - Brent Dorrington, Dean Morrison, Harry Bryant and James Wood.

Now, The Mad Hueys are looking to GoPro to embark on a maiden voyage together. Truth be told, we've been working together for a few years on various events, not just because we couldn't resist their boyish good looks, master baiting skills and surf legend status, but they also know their way around a GoPro and creating an awesome edit.

GoPros are just so easy, Captain Blackbeard says. It's small, so you mount it, press record and that's it. You're recording content, and all you have to worry about is fighting the fish.

This is where Ahoy F---ers and being a hero come together to bring even more mouth-watering footie to fish/surf/Huey enthusiasts everywhere. Let's just say we go together like a cold brew and your right shoe.

Oh, and just in case you're still wondering, bananas aboard a fishing vessel are bad luck - any light-beer-drinking barney knows that.
