Collaboration enables news crews to blend cellular and satellite connectivity on demand in the field
WATERLOO, Ontario, and SINT-NIKLAAS, Belgium - September 6, 2017 - Dejero, an innovator in blending IP networks for video transport and Internet connectivity while mobile or in remote locations, has announced a collaboration with Newtec, a specialist in the design, development, and manufacture of equipment and technologies for satellite communications, for the recently unveiled Dejero CellSat solution. CellSat will be showcased at the Dejero stand 12.B42, at the Intelsat stand 1.C71 and at the Newtec stand 1.A49 during IBC2017 (15-19 September 2017, RAI Amsterdam).
Dejero CellSat intelligently combines cellular connectivity from multiple mobile network providers with Ku-band IP satellite connectivity from Intelsat, using Dejero's patented network blending technology. A Newtec Dialog IP modem, configured for the CellSat service, is provided as part of the solution, which includes Dejero transmission and receiving equipment, software, connectivity services to the CellSat network, cloud management, and support.
As a result, CellSat users don't have to book satellite time - it is simply available to boost bandwidth when they need, at the push of a button. To achieve this, Dejero CellSat is tightly integrated with Newtec's unique Mx-DMA technology as part of the Newtec Dialog platform. Mx-DMA combines the best of SCPC and TDMA to flexibly and seamlessly manage bandwidth on demand, while avoiding fragmentation of space segment. The system also intelligently manages and blends the satellite connection with the available cellular connections. This enables Dejero to provide the aggregated bandwidth that delivers additional reliability when broadcasting live from the field.
CellSat enables remote news crews to confidently broadcast live from virtually anywhere in situations where cellular network congestion or location can decrease the broadcaster's confidence that the available bandwidth from cellular alone will be sufficient for the duration of the coverage, said Bogdan Frusina, founder, Dejero. The Newtec Dialog technology is key to our delivery of a full solution that makes it simple for customers to leverage both cellular and satellite transmission paths for their video transport needs and to source that solution from a single service provider.
CellSat is managed through the cloud-based Dejero Control management system from a browser, allowing customers to remotely control equipment, monitor live feeds, route content to the desired broadcast facility, and view usage and billing reports. The integration with Newtec enables Dejero to perform front line support duties for the CellSat solution, managing the blended network of the cellular and satellite connections.

We are delighted to support the Dejero CellSat solution that allows broadcasters to choose from satellite, cellular, Wi-Fi or Ethernet IP connectivity on an ad hoc basis, providing them with an extra tool to establish a flexible, reliable and cost-effective way to cover breaking news or any event said Hans Massart, market director broadcast of Newtec. When terrestrial networks are not available, become contended over time, suffer from too much jitter or occasionally are not cost-effective, IP satellite may be the only connectivity option left to modern news crews to handle all IP applications they require. , Massart continued. The Newtec Dialog platform provides a powerful API which facilitated integration into Dejero's Control management system significantly.
Dejero CellSat is initially available in the United States and Canada, with rollout to other regions planned for 2018.
Bogdan Frusina, founder of Dejero, is scheduled to talk about Solving the newsgathering contribution dilemma: What video transport asset should I deploy when a story breaks?' on Saturday 16th of September at 1:30pm in room G106 at the RAI, as part of the Advanced IP Newsgathering sessions organized by Newtec. At the same session Hans Massart, broadcast market director at Newtec and Peter Ostapiuk, head of media product services and management at Intelsat will elaborate on the environment created to host the Dejero CellSat service.
