Screen Australia congratulates the cast, crew and creative teams behind the 10 projects selected for the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). Projects include the highly anticipated drama series Picnic at Hanging Rock in Berlinale Series, and Tilda Cobham-Hervey's directorial debut A Field Guide to Being a 12-Year-Old Girl.
In addition to the ten projects, four emerging female Australian directors Amie Batalibasi (Docked), Pia Borg (Silica), Lucy Gaffy (Dream Baby) and Bec Penniston-Bird (Goodnight Sweetheart) have been selected to participate in the Berlinale Talents program.
Picnic at Hanging Rock continues to captivate people around the world, said Graeme Mason, CEO of Screen Australia. Not only has the hotly anticipated series already sold to Amazon for the US, BBC for the UK, and SKY New Zealand, it will now open the highly prestigious Berlinale Series program. The buzz surrounding this series is inescapable ahead of its world premiere at home on Foxtel.
The projects selected as part of the official 2018 Berlinale program are:
Closer Productions' short A Field Guide to Being a 12-Year-Old Girl, written and directed by Tilda Cobham-Hervey, in Generation Kplus. Production funding from Screen Australia through the joint ABC Girls season initiative.
Closer Productions will also have episodes of comedy series F***ing Adelaide from director Sophie Hyde (who won the Crystal Bear in 2014 for 52 Tuesdays) screening in the Drama Series Days at EFM. Production funding from Screen Australia through the joint ABC Long Story Short initiative.
6 Season Productions' feature documentary Gurrumul in Berlinale Special, presented in co-operation with NATIVe. Production funding from Screen Australia.
Wabi Sabi Studios short Lost & Found, from producer Lucy Hayes and directors Andrew Goldsmith and Bradley Slabe, in Generation Kplus. Production funding from Screen Australia through the Hot Shots program.
Seymour Films' web series Other People's Problems, which will have episodes screened as part of the Drama Series Days at EFM. Production funding from Screen Australia through the joint ABC Long Story Short initiative.
Australian/Korean short film Paper Crane, in Generation Kplus.
FremantleMedia Australia's drama for Foxtel Picnic at Hanging Rock, in Berlinale Series. Major production investment funding from Screen Australia.
Roadshow Productions' Romper Stomper, which had the most successful debut ever for a Stan original series and has already sold to BBC Three and Sundance TV, will have episodes screening in the Drama Series Days at EFM. Major production investment funding from Screen Australia.
Matchbox Pictures' SBS series Safe Harbour, which has just announced a March 7 Australian air date, will have episodes screened as part of the Drama Series Days at EFM. Major production investment funding from Screen Australia.
Producers Yingna Lu and Janet Brown's short film Tangles and Knots starring Odessa Young, and written/directed by Ren e Marie Petropoulos, in Generation 14plus.
