Industry leaders bridge the gap between IP infrastructure and UHD resolution at IBC2015

In the first demonstration of its kind, Gearhouse Broadcast has announced today that it will upgrade its live remote production demonstration from HD to 4K resolution. The solution uses EVS' IT-based production switcher DYVI and will be on display on the Gearhouse booth at IBC2015.

The demonstration will feature the transport of 4K footage from a Hitachi SK-UHD4000 4K camera in position on the Hitachi Kokusai Electric Europe GmbH booth (11.D39). Feeds from this and a HD camera will be sent via fibre to the Gearhouse booth (10.B39) where they will be cut together using Gearhouse's DYVI production switcher which will simultaneously carry audio and comms signals.

Gearhouse's remote production workflows solution was first introduced to attendees of a demonstration day at its headquarters in Watford earlier this year where the DYVI switcher was used in a HD set up. It's part of Gearhouse's commitment to offering its customers the latest in future-proof technologies. This upgraded 4K version of the solution acts as a proof of concept in the migration from HD to 4K and will highlight the benefits that remote production through IP infrastructures allow broadcasters.

As our customers continue to test workflows and infrastructures with 4K programming, IP is increasingly becoming a more viable way to achieve a total migration to the new resolution, said Kevin Fitzgerald, head of systems and product sales at Gearhouse Broadcast. The remote production solution we presented in June gave users many operational and cost-effective benefits and now we're able to also provide them the next step beyond that - 4K content.

EVS' DYVI is the only system that allows remote sharing of production resources and can transfer uncompressed video and auxiliary data from any remote location. This benefits broadcasters by reducing their operational costs and increasing the flexibility of production and allowing more space for creativity.

The interest from the industry in DYVI has been incredible, said Henry Alexander, svp market and product at EVS. It's an excellent example of the IT/broadcast convergence that's currently happening in the industry and being able to produce 4K content remotely is going to bring about many benefits for producers.

Gearhouse Broadcast will be exhibiting the live remote 4K production solution on its booth (10.B39) and representatives from both companies will be available to do a demonstration briefing on Saturday 12th September at IBC2015, which runs from 11 - 15 September 2015 at the RAI Amsterdam.
