Industry Alert: Last few days to register for Jobs, Dollars, Hearts & Minds conference

Last few days to register! It's your last chance to register for Screen Australia's Jobs, Dollars, Hearts & Minds one-day policy conference in Canberra. Ticket sales close on 11 June.

Just months out from a federal election, this conference provides a unique opportunity to highlight the importance of the Australian screen industry to our economy and our culture. Speakers include Arts Minister Tony Burke, Shadow Arts Minister Senator George Brandis and Screen Australia Chair Glen Boreham AM.

The event will also offer an important networking opportunity, with attendees from agencies, guilds, broadcasters and government.

New speakers announced:

SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid and ABC Director of Television Richard Finlayson, in his first public address in the position, will speak on the role of the public broadcasters in relation to Australian content.

SPAA Executive Director Matthew Deaner will speak about producers' perspectives on the challenges and opportunities associated with creating Australian content.

Together with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Screen Australia will be releasing the results of the first ABS screen sector survey in six years, which for the first time includes statistics on the interactive games sector. This new data will provide a crucial gauge of the health of the sector.

Minister Burke will announce recipients of the first round of funding under Screen Australia's new Games Enterprise Program, which will provide game development companies with up to $1 million each over three years.

A panel discussion on the future of Australian content will be chaired by Screen Australia Chief Executive Ruth Harley, and will feature screen industry leaders Greg Basser (CEO Village Roadshow Entertainment), David Haslingden (NHNZ and Chairman Channel 9), Megan Elliott (Director X|Media|Lab), Kim Dalton (former Director ABC TV, for his first public address since leaving the post) and Johnny Luu (Communications and Public Affairs Manager Google).

A keynote session by author, media commentator and researcher Dr Rebecca Huntley, Director of Ipsos Mackay research, will present new audience research commissioned by Screen Australia on the impact of Australian content. This will be followed by industry luminaries, directors Gillian Armstrong and Wayne Blair, video-blogger Natalie Tran and actor/director Jeremy Sims, in conversation with highly-regarded industry journalist Sandy George on the Australian stories that have inspired them.
