Scribblings is a short psychological drama from Antagonist Studios, written and directed by Oscar Barby.

The film revolves around three characters who are in a love triangle; Jack, a struggling writer, Viva, Jack s girlfriend and Blanca, Jack s new lodger.

Antagonist Studio s casting director Richard Lothian secured the actors for the short film. Jack is played by Francis Chouler from Book of Negroes. Viva is played by Chi Mhende, who won Best Actress at the Durban International Film Festival this year and Blanca is played by Gahlia Phillips, who recently acted alongside Chi in Slowly, an Artscape Theatre production.

Amrish Shah, Scribblings producer comments: Scribblings was the first project that Oscar and I had worked on together and I was intrigued into how he would showcase the themes of anxiety, multiple personalities and of course writers anguish amongst many more within the medium of a short film. Im excited to see what the response will be! Id like to add a special thanks to everyone at Antagonist Studios, Media Film Service Cape Town, Bounceboard Productions and Truth Coffee for helping us make this happen.

Scribblings, was shot by cinematographer Warrick Le Sueur and is currently in post-production. Set to be screened on 1 December 2014, the film will also be in competition for The Berlin International Film Festival in February 2015.

Antagonist Studios opened their doors early in 2014 with the idea to deliver a cutting edge market to contemporary South African cinema. The stories they are bringing to life will all be told in a distinctly African style and embedded in cultural traditions that have long been overlooked.

Antagonist Studios are currently working towards presenting a two-day short film festival for new and emerging South African talent. SASFF/Celebrating Diversity is a platform for local filmmakers from all cultures and creeds to primarily be showcased locally, and then rolled out to the greater Southern African region.

The festival will take place over the course of one week in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban and will be comprised of narrative and documentary shorts, a music video corner, PSA s and TV Commercials.
