Modern miracles to be shown in new ITV documentary

The remarkable stories of people whose lives are transformed by ground-breaking medical procedures are to be told in a brand new format on ITV.

From seeing again, taking the first unaided steps of your life or hearing once more, new Factual commission The Miracle [WT] will show what happens when the previously impossible is made possible by advances in medical science.

Produced by Optomen, the programme will capture the extraordinary emotional and physical transformation of people having their sight, hearing and ability to walk restored by the power of modern medicine. In telling each patient's story, this ground breaking factual format will offer an insight into the impact of preparing for, undergoing and re-emerging from such profound change on people at all stages of life from young to old and from a range of backgrounds and on those closest to them.

Each patient's story will be told from their existing daily lives through their procedures, to the point where we witness their lives having been radically changed, having previously suffered with life-long conditions or the effects of illness or an accident.

The programme will show pioneering operations being performed at close quarters with NICE and FDA-approved clinicians in the UK and the US. Availability of some of the treatments featured can be restricted by postcode lotteries and cost, but, the Miracle will feature cases where the hard work and generosity of friends, family and neighbours has made access to them possible.

The Miracle is commissioned for ITV by Jo Clinton-Davis, Controller of Factual and Richard Klein, Director of Factual.
