Malignant tumors the top killer for Ningbo residents in 04

11,961 Ningbo residents killed by malignant tumors in 2014, up 61 cases compared with the previous year, according to the Cancer Report released by the Ningbo government.

The data means 327 people passed away from cancer every 10 days in Ningbo in 2014.

Malignant tumors have been the #1 leading cause of death for Ningbo residents in the past 10 years, and the number of residents killed by tumors in 2014 accounted for nearly one third of the entire group in the same year. Of all the malignant tumors, the top 5 that killed the most people were lung cancer, liver cancer, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, and esophagus cancer, which were responsible for 75% of the deaths caused by tumors.

Besides, deaths caused by breast cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer increased rapidly in 2014.

The report also indicated that male morbidity of most malignant tumors is higher than female morbidity, except for thyroid cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer. The higher morbidity rate is mainly due the bad habits and unhealthy life styles of many males, such as smoking and drinking.
