Nollywood gears up for AFRIFF

The fourth edition of the highly acclaimed Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) which will hold at the Tinapa Resort in Calabar between November 9 and 16 promises to deliver another stimulating season of creativity. Going by assurances from the Creative Director, Keith Shiri and the CEO, Chioma Ude, participation has increased and there is more enthusiasm from practitioners.

This year, 250 films have been entered for consideration from 50 countries. Top of the pack is the film, The Square', a compelling film from Egypt which details some of the recent tumultuous events in that country. Other leading films billed for special creening as revealed by an excited Shiri include October 1', Invasion', The Mirage' and Finding Fela'.

A major strength of the festival is its insistence on master classes and training to raise a younger generation of film makers. With Chioma Ude and Shiri as they spoke with journalists in Lagos were the AFRIFF ambassadors, South African actress, Xolile Tshabalala and Rita Dominic.

Maintaining a theme around uniting Africa and creating access, the vision is to raise awareness in Africa about the vast potential the entertainment industry holds and the impact it can generate in the economy. AFRIFF is firmly committed to establishing bridges for partnership with international counterparts to ensure quality, expertise and global standards access the local industry, accelerating its development sustainably. AFRIFF also aims to re-establish Africa's significance as the original birth home of civilisation and indeed the last frontier for unique film stories and content development.

Celebrating its 4th edition in November 2014, the festival will once again hold worldwide film audiences enthralled with a series of technical talent development workshops, business networking events like the film and equipment fora as well as Industry Discussion Panels. Most importantly, AFRIFF features a rich and diverse film programme, with films from all over the world in various genres that are screened over five fun-filled days, which makes AFRIFF a celebration of the talent and beauty of Africa.

ARIFF strives to add tangible value to the development and promotion of the local entertainment industry in Africa by providing a world-class platform to promote African Films and filmmakers internationally, providing a bridge for Africa filmmakers in the diaspora to access local African markets and also directly rewarding filmmakers through direct funds and film resources.
