CBC Sponsors First Triangle eSports Championship

CBC served as Media Sponsor for the first Triangle eSports Championship, held at the Durham Armory on Sunday afternoon, February 3, 2019.

The first Triangle eSports Championship was a success. Held Sunday afternoon, February 3, 2019, at the Durham Armory, over 500 attended and 2,000 watched online via Twitch. Capitol Broadcasting served as the media sponsor.

Hosted by the Kramden Institute and Triangle Literacy Council, the event is the first eSports tournament to benefit charity.

We are so excited to bring this competitive and fun new event to Durham and the Triangle Region, said Laura Walters, President and CEO of the Triangle Literacy Council. The Triangle Literacy Council and Kramden Institute are long-time partners providing digital and literacy resources to the community to improve educational, workforce and life skills development. The proceeds from this event will allow us to expand our services and provide more opportunities for adults, youth and children in our community to flourish.

The TeSC was a significant undertaking for tournament director Jatovi McDuffie (of the Durham Bulls) in the 85-year-old Durham Armory. The event required an industrial generator and extra bandwidth to accommodate the 100 PCs provided by Lenovo.

Video games included Fortnite and Rocket League tournaments as well as a PlayStation Fighting Games showcase. Students from UNC and Duke University went head-to-head in a Smash Bros Ultimate Grudge Match. And they are already asking about a rematch!
