Florida cinematographer Matt Wightman was chosen as the featured Production Takes columnist in the March issue of HD Video Pro. His submission, Grow Your Own, details his experience of arriving to a job, only to discover he'd be shooting an infomercial for a product tied to growing marijuana. His story uniquely illustrates the sometimes unpredictable nature of working in cinematography.
The Litepanels Croma he received for his selected story quickly came into use on his shoots. DPs in Florida tend to work on a plethora of different subjects, said Matt. I do a lot of product shooting, as there's a big culture here with regards to products. Shortly after I received the Croma, I was doing a shoot for a Bissell vacuum cleaner. We were maybe two hours into shooting, and I just needed a little punch of light in the moment. So I grabbed the Croma, and it worked out great.
While much of Matt's work as a cinematographer is tied to product shooting, he has recently been enjoying his time on a true-crime series based out of Knoxville, TN. It's really interesting to work on this show because we interview everybody from family members of the subject, to district attorneys and detectives that investigate the crimes, noted Matt. We use Litepanels 1x1s on the show, and that was my first experience using them. We travel all over the place, and the Litepanels fixtures really make things easier.
