23 08 2021 - Media release New drama series Bad Behaviour heading to Stan
Writer Magda Wozniak, writer Pip Carmel, director Corrie Chen
Stan and Screen Australia have announced the brand new Stan Original Series Bad Behaviour. Based on the acclaimed book of the same name by Australian writer Rebecca Starford, Bad Behaviour is a four-part Stan Original Series offering a visceral and poignant ride into the epicentre of the teenage years where the most crucial decision of the day is to bully or be bullied.
An emotionally and physically intense glimpse into the lives of teenage girls at the wilderness campus of an exclusive girls boarding school, the series takes us inside a brutal world, exploring latent and emerging sexuality, ritualistic rites, intense friendships, gruelling physical punishments, shifting loyalties and a ruthless struggle for power. Played out across past and present timelines, the series reveals that even 10 years on from their school years, no one has escaped unscathed and most are scarred for life.
The Stan Original Series Bad Behaviour is written by Pip Karmel (New Gold Mountain, Total Control) and Magda Wozniak (Mustangs FC, The Heights), produced by Amanda Higgs (The Secret Life of Us, Seven Types of Ambiguity) and directed by Corrie Chen (New Gold Mountain, Homecoming Queens). The series will be produced in partnership with Matchbox Pictures, which is part of NBCUniversal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, with major production investment from Screen Australia.
Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie said, Continuing to build on our strong Aussie slate, Bad Behaviour, Stan's first project with Matchbox Pictures, will be led by a strong all-female creative team, with the very talented director Corrie Chen bringing this story to life for Stan audiences. Bad Behaviour is set to be a stellar series exploring the life of today's teenagers, the important issues and obstacles they can face, and the decisions that could last a lifetime.
Matchbox Pictures Managing Director Alastair McKinnon said, From a powerhouse team of all- female creatives led by the incomparable Amanda Higgs, Bad Behaviour is a thrilling look at the lives of teenagers and the decisions that can indelibly shape their future lives. In Stan, we have the perfect partner that understands the timeless power of this story and its contemporary urgency.
Screen Australia Head of Content Sally Caplan said, Bad Behaviour promises to be a visceral and stirring account of teenage female friendships and an exploration of the lasting effects the formative teenage years can have on adult life and we are thrilled to support it. In the skilful hands of Matchbox Pictures and led by producer Amanda Higgs, it's exciting to see Corrie Chen continue to go from strength to strength and with evocative scripts by Pip Karmel and Magda Wozniak, we look forward to viewers tuning in when it releases on Stan.
The Stan Original Series Bad Behaviour is produced by Matchbox Pictures with major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Stan. Developed and produced with support from Film Victoria. NBCUniversal Global Distribution will manage international sales.
The Stan Original Series Bad Behaviour will commence production later this year, with further announcements to come.
