SoCal Connected Explores How the Space Industry Is Once Again Taking Off In Souern California

SOCAL CONNECTED EXPLORES HOW THE SPACE INDUSTRY IS ONCE AGAIN TAKING OFF IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Los Angeles, November 8, 2011 - This week SoCal Connected takes a look at how Southern California has become the hub of space exploration, with the highest concentration of private space travel companies in the world located in the Mojave Desert, as well as how one lucky Los Angeles museum won the keys to the Space Shuttle Endeavor.

With NASA out of the space business, the industry has gone private. Correspondent Vince Gonzalez explores how the US government is looking to private businesses such as Richard Bransons Virgin Galactic and Elon Musks Space X to take over the future of space travel. Anyone who can afford the $200,000 ticket can now experience outer space. So Cal Connected travels to Mojave Desert, where the new center for private space travel is taking flight. SHUTTLE DIPLOMACY

2012 will mark the beginning of a new frontier for space education in Los Angeles, as the Space Shuttle Endeavor embarks on its final journey to the California Science Center. Correspondent Jennifer London reports on how the City of Angeles beat out other heavy contenders such as the famed Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, for the coveted piece of space memorabilia. Steve Soboroff, special advisor to the Los Angeles Endeavor project, gives SoCal Connected an exclusive preview of how they intend to move the 180,000 lb spacecraft through LAs concrete jungle from LAX to the Science Center near USC. The all-new episode airs Friday, November 11 at 8:30 p.m. with repeat airings on Saturdays at 6:00 PM, Sundays at 6:30 PM, and Mondays at 10:30 PM.
