Script to Screen Competition

A DAC supported screenwriting mentorship and development initiative, which focuses on the hunting and gathering of potential film content. The initiative has been recently accredited by the MICT SETA to provide a formal learnership for aspirant scriptwriters while exposing them to the fundamentals of film making in the townships, peri-urban and rural areas.

To kickstart the learnership Script To Screen invites potential storytellers and screenplay writers to enter the SCRIPT TO SCREEN STORY COMPETITION by submitting stories which will be adapted into screenplays together with the entrants to a point where the screenplays a goo enough to be made into films after presenting them to producers and financiers who are looking for authentic South African stories.

CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY

The stories must be based on African idioms in any official South African language,

The competition is open to South African citizens above the age of 20 who can submit a short story that can be published in a collection of South African stories and possibly be adapted into a short film screenplay.

The length of the story must not exceed 12 typed pages.

The story should preferably be set in the writer's area or domicile of origin.

The story may either be true or fiction, be authentic and appealing.

The stories should state the entrant's name, address, contact and e-mail numbers and the entrant's certified id copy.

State the availability of the entrant for a year long staggered mentorship

THE PRIZES ARE:

The top five writers from each of the 9 provinces will be selected for an intensive year long scriptwriting mentorship and exposure to the stages of film making.

The top five stories will be published into an anthology of short stories.

The best script to come out of the mentorship will be adapted into a short film in 2016.

While under consideration entries may not be submitted for publication elsewhere until the publishers have confirmed in writing that the manuscript has been turned down for publication.

The judges reserve the right to withhold one or more of the prizes should the quality of the entries not be up to standard.

Submitting a story does not guarantee entry to the scriptwriting mentorship, the publication of the story nor it's adaptation into a short film script. Entries should be typed or printed out on A4 paper, with double spacing and broad margins, on one side of the paper only, and clearly numbered. Do not bind.

All submissions must be sent by post. Email submission will be disqualified.

Manuscripts will be judged anonymously, writers are requested to ensure that their names appear only on the title page of the entry and nowhere else.

Each entry must be accompanied by a signed entry form or a copy thereof.

The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
