Mercedes Fern ndez (Telef nica) takes stock of the implementation of 5G in Spain Un a o m s, el 5G Forum Virtual ha recibido a Mercedes Fern ndez, gerente de innovaci n de Telephone. En el encuentro virtual, se han detallado los principales hitos de la teleoperadora en la implantaci n de 5G de primera generaci n en Espa a. Ha sido un a o muy intenso , confiesa Mercedes. Desde que en septiembre de 2020 Telef nica iniciara la comercializaci n de la red 5G en Espa a, la demanda se ha multiplicado. No solo hablamos de usuarios que se han interesado en sus beneficios, sino tambi n de sectores como la industria 4.0 o el universo media: Los clientes han pasado a transmitirnos qu quieren del 5G para hacer las cosas de forma diferente y crear nuevas experiencias .
Entre estos casos de xito, Manuela ha enumerado aplicaciones como la utilizaci n de drones 5G para la inspecci n de v as por parte de ADIF; las intervenciones quir rgicas con asistencia en tiempo real, firmadas por Quir n Salud; o la transformaci n de procesos productivos y transformaci n digital con t cnicas de AR y VR llevada a cabo por Navantia.
Pilotos en marcha M s all de casos de uso reales que ya han sido puestos en funcionamiento, Mercedes remarca que Telef nica cuenta con m s de 70 pilotos activos en los mbitos de la industria 4.0, e-health, educaci n, turismo o media y televisi n, un ltimo ep grafe que se beneficia del gran ancho de banda de subida de 5G .
Gran parte de estos proyectos han sido impulsados por la segunda convocatoria de red.es. La gerente de innovaci n cita los m s destacados: uso de drones (Correos), el control de drones (Ericsson), optimizaci n del centros log sticos (El Corte Ingl s), proyectos de rehabilitaci n de enfermos de esclerosis m ltiple con gamificaci n y realidad virtual (Hospital de la Princesa) o network slicing (Meli ).
Otros casos de uso que ya est n en marcha giran en torno a nuevas formas de educaci n, apoyadas en la realidad virtual; la remote production profesional, para que reporteros puedan conectar sus c maras v a 5G y hacer directos; la trasmisi n de eventos deportivos en 360, tal y como se prob en la Copa del Rey de Baloncesto de este a o; la telepresencia hologr fica, la cual har presencia en breve en el centro de demostraciones de Telef nica; o la traducci n simult nea, apoyada por nuevos desarrollos de inteligencia artificial y reforzada por la baja latencia que brinda el 5G.
Hacia el 5G de 2 generaci n A d a de hoy, el 5G de Telef nica da cobertura al 80% de la poblaci n. Es un despliegue de primera generaci n apalancado en la red 4G de Telef nica y desplegado en la banda de 3.5 GHz, apoyado a su vez en la 2.1 GHz con extensi n dynamic spectrum. Sin embargo, este es solo el principio: Ahora los operadores nos enfrentaremos al reto del 5G standalone, de segunda generaci n . Es el 5G definitivo, porque habr que cambiar el core, tendremos que dirigirnos a la virtualizaci n y con l se conseguir el network slicing para generar carriles con diferentes capacidades. Ser cuando llegue la prometida latencia de 1.5 ms y se consolidar el internet de las cosas , concreta Mercedes.
Para conseguir todas estas metas, apunta la gerente de innovaci n, hay que superar numerosos retos: En la actualidad, solo se dispone de una de las tres bandas de frecuencia. Falta su licitaci n, as como la reordenaci n del 3.5 GHz . Mercedes tambi n fija su atenci n en el desarrollo de terminales 5G como routers industriales o m dulos de comunicaci n en los coches , que va poco a poco ; y la exploraci n de modelos de negocio, ya que los operadores tenemos que hacer un gran esfuerzo inversor para que el despliegue llegue a todo el pa s .
