Time Warner Announces Appointments in Finance and Strategy Groups Doug Shapiro Appointed Senior Vice President, International and Corporate Strategy
Michael Kopelman Named Senior Vice President, Investor Relations
NEW YORK Time Warner Inc.s Chief Financial & Administrative Officer John Martin and Executive Vice President, International and Corporate Strategy Olaf Olafsson announced appointments in the management of the companys finance and strategy groups.
Doug Shapiro, who has served as Time Warners Senior Vice President, Investor Relations since 2008, has been named Senior Vice President, International and Corporate Strategy, reporting to Mr. Olafsson. Mr. Shapiro succeeds Michael Del Nin, who resigned to become Co-Chief Executive Officer of Central European Media Enterprises.
Michael Kopelman, currently Time Warners Vice President, Investor Relations, succeeds Mr. Shapiro as Senior Vice President, Investor Relations.
In making the announcement about Mr. Shapiro, Mr. Olafsson said: Doug has done an outstanding job leading Time Warners investor relations efforts, and has already played a significant role in many of our companys strategic initiatives. He brings to his new position a deep understanding of the business, financial and technological issues and opportunities for both our company and our industry. I know hell make important contributions to Time Warner in his new position.
Mr. Olafsson added: On behalf of everyone at Time Warner, we also want to acknowledge the many valuable contributions Michael Del Nin made as a colleague over the past 13 years and wish him well as he embarks on this well-deserved opportunity at CME.
Mr. Shapiro will report to Mr. Olafsson. Mr. Kopelman, who joined Time Warner in 2009, will report to Mr. Martin and serve as the companys principal day-to-day contact with the investment community.
In announcing Mr. Kopelmans appointment, Mr. Martin said: Im very pleased that Mike will succeed Doug as head of our Investor Relations group. He has already been instrumental in how we have communicated our business strategy and outlook with investors. He is highly respected on Wall Street, knows our company through and through, and Im confident will be a valued senior member of the finance team as well as an effective steward of our IR efforts.
Background on Mr. Shapiro
Mr. Shapiro joined Time Warner in Investor Relations in 2007, becoming head of the group in 2008. Previously, as a senior analyst at Banc of America Securities from 1999 to 2007, Mr. Shapiro covered the Cable and Satellite TV and Media Conglomerate sectors and was the head of the Media and Telecommunications research team. He was ranked as one of the top Cable and Satellite analysts by Institutional Investor magazine from 1997 to 2006. Before joining Banc of America Securities, he was a senior analyst at Deutsche Banc Securities.
Mr. Shapiro received a B.A. degree in economics from the University of Michigan and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Background on Mr. Kopelman
Prior to joining Time Warners Investor Relations team in 2009, Mr. Kopelman was a Research Analyst at Merrill Lynch. While at Merrill Lynch, he was part of the top-ranked US Media team, focusing on the US Entertainment sector. He was also recognized by Institutional Investor as an All-Star analyst for his work on Latin America Media. Prior to Merrill Lynch, Mike worked as a Research Analyst at Robertson Stephens and an analyst at Accenture.
Mr. Kopelman graduated summa cum laude from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Economics and Finance. He was a Fulbright Scholar and also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
