CBS Sports Network Camera Operator Steve Orloff Dies at 71 By SVG Staff

Steve Orloff, a longtime camera operator for CBS Sports, passed away on Dec. 28 at the age of 71 after a battle with cancer. On Sunday, CBS Sports' lead announcer took a moment during the broadcast of the Broncos-Chiefs week 18 NFL game to pay tribute to Orloff and offer condolences to his friends and family.
Orloff's work behind the camera captured some of the most iconic moments in American sports television. Orloff's career spanned several decades, and his contribution to the world of sports media and his community left an indelible mark.
Born in 1953, Steve grew up in Springfield, MA and graduated from Peabody High School. Orloff Steve went on to study at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a school known for its strong communication programs. It was during his time at UMass Amherst that Orloff's interest in broadcasting solidified.
Upon graduating, Orloff path took him to CBS Sports, where he would spend the majority of his professional life. Orloff's role as a camera operator allowed him to work at the heart of sports events, capturing the essence of the action for millions of viewers. His work was seen in countless broadcasts, from major league games to the grand stage of the Olympics. He was a part of the production team for some of the most memorable moments in sports history, capturing pivotal moments from behind the lens that will forever be etched in the memories of sports fans.
His keen eye and exceptional technical skill earned him respect among his colleagues, but it was his dedication to the craft that truly set him apart. Whether it was the speed of a fast break in basketball or the intensity of a last-minute goal in soccer, Steve's camera work was instrumental in translating the excitement and drama of live sports to viewers across the country.
His long tenure with CBS Sports made him a familiar face in the industry, respected not only for his work on screen but for his character and professionalism behind the scenes. Beyond his technical expertise, Steve Orloff was known for his warmth and generosity of spirit. He formed close bonds with those he worked alongside, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer advice. His colleagues remember him as someone who could be counted on for support, both professionally and personally. His integrity, sense of humor, and commitment to his work made him an invaluable part of the CBS Sports team.
