Neo on location in Bali with hit Jazz artist!

Rotolight will be demonstrating the latest generation of on-camera lighting in the form of the Rotolight Neo at NAB Show 2015. The British LED Lighting manufacturer has confirmed the Neo will commence shipping this April as a new range of accessories are announced and further details of an innovative feature set unfold. While things are heating up for the highly anticipated lighting system, Director and Special Effects Technician, Manex Efrem recently utilized the Rotolight Neo in the remote Island of Bali for a Music Promo to light International Acid Jazz Artist!

Travelling to Bali at short notice on your own to shoot 2 promos in a week was a tough task in logistics; taking as much photographic equipment, tripods, grips and sliders easily fills the hand-luggage quota, and your favourite kit has to be prioritized. Lighting is the first to suffer, until I tried out the new Rotolight Neo.

Manex has recently been working on feature films such as Pan, King Arthur and Disney's Maleficent, and his prestigious credits also include multi-award winning series Band of Brothers, Gravity, Stardust and War Horse! Manex has worked with Rotolight LED Lighting on a previous music shoot and was tasked with capturing Jean-Paul Bluey Maunick, the founding member of Incognito the International Hit Acid Jazz group. Efrem required a lighting source that would be small enough to carry but offer enough power and versatility on location for a solo production team - Neo was ideal.

Neo's never before seen feature set include, Designer Fade Mode that will enable DSLR Cinematographers to create and design unique custom fade up / fade down production effects and seamless transition between scenes. Not only does the Neo offer internal temperature indication and Battery Low' warnings to ensure users don't get caught short in the field, Neo uses AccuColour Technology for excellent colour and skintone reproduction!

It was small and light enough for me to take with me, but more importantly, it was bright enough to make it worth taking a necessity. Being able to dial the colour-temperature so easily made it useable in situations where I would have forgone the trouble. When we had only minutes to set-up and shoot before the rains set in, it's portability, versatility and power was invaluable to our filming. The features are really exciting, I was using a DSLR to capture the promo so anything to help me was an added bonus.

Neo features a world's first ground-breaking feature. Neo uses exposure information from the camera (Shutter speed and ISO) plus distance to the subject and data from the light to accurately calculate the correct aperture (F-Stop), whilst also compensating for skin tone contrast. This allows the photographer or Cinematographer to work intuitively with the light, and no longer need to meter every shot saving valuable time. As you adjust the distance from your subject, or the brightness of the Neo, you would simply re-enter the relevant settings and Neo would display the updated recommended aperture accordingly (F-STOP).

VAT the Neo will be shipping at the end of April with a fantastic new range of accessories available shortly after including Chimera Softbox, Portabrace Rain Jacket and the new Rotolight Neo 3 light kit priced at £1245 featuring 3 sets of; Neo's, barn doors, 360 ball swivels, 4-pack filter set, hot-shoe adaptors and new Rotolight compact light-stand and airline fit water proof flight case on wheels. Rotolight have been working closely with a group of highly experienced Cinematographers, Gaffers and Special effect artists such as Stefan Lange (Skyfall, Lara Croft, Batman) to create a Cinematic Colour FX Filter kit for the Neo and Rotolight ANOVA.
