RT's The Black and Irish Podcast available now One country, many voices

RT has launched a brand-new 10-week series of The Black and Irish Podcast.

Presented by Femi Bankole, Leon Diop, Amanda Ade andBoni Odoemene, the series looks at growing up as part of a minority, tackling issues of racism in Ireland and assessing how they might be changed.

During the series, the hosts and their guests share their experiences of what it's like growing up black in Ireland, and highlight the struggles and successes of the community.

Each episode will see a guest interviewed about their own personal experiences of growing up black in Ireland. The podcast is an extension of the host's already very successful Instagram account, @black_andIrish, which has amassed nearly 45,000 followers since its launch.

On the first episode of The Black and Irish Podcast, which is now available, Leon Diop chats to Dafe Orugbo, aka Max Zanga from the popular Irish hip-hop dua Tebi Rex.

Leon and Max met at university, and in this episode, they chat about their experiences of growing up black and mixed-race in Ireland, their time at university in Maynooth, and Max shares the story of being on The Late Late Show.

Max reveals that he has experienced countless instances of racism while growing up in Ireland:

When you are young, I think humans, especially black people who are a minority in a country, you are built and focussing on survival. I shouldn't have to deal with that. I shouldn't have to be small, or meek, or passive, just to exist.

Boni Odoemene talks to Ben Butler

Join Boni as he chats to Ben Butler, a mixed-race father-of-two from Dublin. In this episode, Ben shares his experience of growing up in 1980s Dublin, feeling resentment towards people who looked like him, and how he can now play his part in making Ireland far more welcoming and hospitable for all everybody.
