NHS Parliamentary Awards 2019 winners, 11 July 2019, House of Commons, United Kingdom.
Today, the NHS Parliamentary Awards 2020/21 have relaunched as part of the NHS' 72nd birthday celebrations. The initial 2020 national awards programme was postponed after the nation was hit by COVID-19 but will now go ahead to celebrate the hard work of NHS staff, carers and volunteers.
This unique awards programme looks to give national recognition to NHS staff and volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty. The relaunched awards will now celebrate the nation's healthcare heroes across over the next 12 months, with Headline Partner Fujifilm helping to tell the stories of those shortlisted over the coming year.
The awards were initially created to recognise NHS staff, carers and volunteers for their dedication, innovative ideas and unwavering efforts to put patients first. After the Coronavirus crisis took hold in the UK, it became clearer than ever the passion that the public holds for the country's health service and the importance of caring for its staff, with Clap for Carers' and multiple fundraising activities receiving global attention.
These awards are the next chance for the public to say thank you to the nation's health and care staff by nominating local heroes to receive national recognition.
Members of Parliament are now searching for nominations and want to hear from outstanding individuals in their local areas who have innovated, impressed and made a real difference to how the health service provides care for patients - both before the pandemic and as a result of COVID-19.
Any member of the public, as well as local health and care organisations can make a nomination of an individual or team and send it to their local MP, with more information and nomination forms available at nhs.uk.
Yoshi Nakamura, Managing Director of Fujifilm UKs, said:
Though we already held huge admiration for the NHS prior to the Coronavirus crisis, the health service's handling of COVID-19 and the incredible national support for the NHS has shone through and far beyond these dark moments.
We have nothing but admiration for the NHS and those who work in it, alongside it and support it - especially through this global pandemic. We are incredibly proud to sponsor the NHS Parliamentary Awards for the second year running.
As an organisation, Fujifilm exists to improve and enhance the quality of life of people around the world, and we are excited to learn about and celebrate the many examples of excellence, care, compassion and innovation in the NHS.
Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent, chair of the national judging panel and England's chief midwifery officer, said:
NHS staff and volunteers make the health service what it is - the largest and greatest care team in the world that provides high quality care to patients throughout the year.
The NHS Parliamentary Awards are a unique opportunity for MPs to highlight the amazing work done by NHS staff in their local areas, and I look forward to working with all of the judges to review the nominations we receive.
World-class staff and teams are critical to the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan - which Fujifilm prioritises in its approach to diagnostic healthcare in the UK - leading improvements on major conditions including cancer, mental health and stroke, helping to make the NHS fit for the future.
There are ten categories, including a new NHS Rising Star Award - also sponsored by Fujifilm. This is looking for any NHS staff member or volunteer under 30 who gives up their time, lends their experiences and delivers better healthcare services for themselves and others in their area.
The awards are open for potential nominations in the following categories:
The Excellence in Healthcare Award
The Excellence in Mental Health Care Award
The Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care Award
The Excellence in Primary Care Award
The Future NHS Award
The Health Equalities Award
The Care and Compassion Award
The Wellbeing at Work Award
The NHS Rising Star Award - sponsored by Fujifilm
The Lifetime Achievement Award
All those who are shortlisted for excellence will be invited to an award ceremony in Parliament to celebrate their fantastic achievements next summer. The next 12 months will also be dedicated to hearing the stories of those shortlisted, and the impact they have made on their local area.
