Adapters Add Blazing-Fast 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE) Optical Network Connectivity to Mac , Windows , and Linux Computers
What's New: Sonnet Technologies today announced the Twin10G SFP28 Thunderbolt Adapter and the Twin10G SFP28 PCIe Card, the latest products in the company's broad line of Ethernet networking adapters. Twin10G SFP28 adapters add blazing-fast, dual-port 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE) optical network connectivity to a wide range of computers, enabling users to easily connect to 10GbE-enabled network infrastructure and storage systems via LC fiber optic cables (sold separately). Both products include two 25GBASE-SR SFP28 transceivers, taking the guesswork out of choosing appropriate modules for the job, and enabling 10GbE connectivity at distances up to 300 meters.
What They Do: Both products offer users a simple solution for adding dual-port 10GbE optical network connectivity to computers and are macOS , Windows , and Linux compatible. The Twin10G SFP28 Thunderbolt Adapter connects to computers with Thunderbolt 5, 4, or 3 ports, while the Twin10G SFP28 PCIe Card is an easy-to-install, low-profile x8 PCIe 3.1 adapter card for computers with PCIe card slots - and is also suitable for use in a multi-slot Thunderbolt to PCIe card expansion systems.
Measuring just 4 inches wide, 8.25 inches long, and 2.8 inches tall, the Twin10G SFP28 Thunderbolt Adapter is small enough to easily fit in most workspaces. The adapter's temperature-controlled, variable-speed fan always keeps it running cool and quiet, making it suitable for use in noise-sensitive environments. The Twin10G SFP28 PCIe Card features a low-profile, single-width card design and includes full-height and low-profile PCIe brackets to enable the installation of the card in almost any x8 PCIe card slot.
Why They're Important: With video content creation and output having transitioned primarily to 4K resolution and beyond, 10GbE has become the de facto data transfer standard for postproduction shared storage workgroups and other bandwidth-intensive workflows. However, most computers need an adapter to connect to 10GbE infrastructure. Sonnet's Twin10G SFP28 Thunderbolt Adapter and Twin10G SFP28 PCIe Card are cost-effective solutions that provide users blazing-fast, reliable, dual-port fiber optic connectivity to access and transfer files at 10 times the speed of Gigabit Ethernet. Additionally, the fiber optic cables used to connect these products to infrastructure are immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI) to ensure the data integrity of files transferred up to 300 meters away (three times the distance copper cables support).
How They're Distinctive: Sonnet Twin10G SFP28 adapters can be connected to infrastructure using a single port, or, users can opt to exploit the adapters' design for increased performance and reliability by connecting both ports. With the Sonnet adapters' support for Server Message Block (SMB) Multichannel under macOS, Windows, and Linux, users can combine each port's bandwidth to deliver twice the data transfer rate when connected to an SMB server. Additionally, by utilizing two network connections, the adapters can seamlessly keep users' computers connected in case a single cable is disconnected or one of the ports fails. The Sonnet adapters' SMB Multichannel support also delivers increased scalability, enhanced load balancing, and reduced latency.
When You Can Get Them: The Twin10G SFP28 Thunderbolt Adapter (part number TWIN10GM-SFP-TB) and Twin10G SFP28 PCIe Card (G10E-SFP-2XM-E3) are available now from Sonnet and soon from its worldwide distribution and reseller partners at suggested retail prices of $649.99 and $349.99, respectively.
