Los Angeles, CA - 8 filmmakers have been chosen to participate in the Sundance Institute's inaugural Art of Editing Lab and Fellowship. This is a new Lab developed after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, expressed digitally this year on Sundance Co//ab. The Fellowship evolved out of the Documentary Film Program's standing commitment to supporting new voices in nonfiction feature editing. The Lab aims to develop artists personal artistic voice through mentorship as well as creative and strategic engagement with Advisors.
During the initial convening, June 22-26, fellows participated in peer-to-peer feedback sessions, one-on-one meetings Advisors, and group conversations that interrogate current creative and business practices in nonfiction.
The filmmakers serving as Creative Advisors for this year's Art of Editing Lab include editors: Carla Gutierrez (Pray Away, RBG), Maya Daisy Hawke (Cave of Forgotten Dreams), Mary Lampson (Crip Camp), Grace Raso (Diego & Frida in Detroit), Carlos Rojas Felice (Tre Maison Dasan) and Katrina Taylor (Wildland).
