Baylor University Adds Abekas Mira Instant Replay Server

Abekas announced that Baylor University, located in Waco, TX, has installed an eight-channel Mira Instant Replay server with two Mira Control Surfaces. The dual-user system entertains and informs fans on the digital scoreboard at the Ferrell Center on campus.

BaylorVision, the university's 13-year-old athletic video production department, produces over one hundred events per year at five venues across the Baylor campus. To engage fans on the digital scoreboard at the Ferrell Center, home of the Baylor men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams, BaylorVision staff researched several multi-channel instant replay servers. The selection of the Mira system followed extensive testing and testimonials from existing Mira customers.

You cannot beat the price-performance of Mira, said Jeromy Otter, Baylor's Director of Athletic Video Production. We were able to save tens of thousands of dollars by selecting Mira over competitive products. Not only is Mira affordable, the operation is so intuitive that anyone can pick it up in a couple of hours. We're hooked on Mira and will be installing another dual-user system in the new Baylor Stadium next year.

Baylor draws from a pool of approximately 25 student volunteers to operate the broadcast service on game days. The university found that students could learn to operate Mira very quickly and were comfortable producing fast-paced coverage of live volleyball matches after just two hours of training. The Mira dual-user configurations provide maximum flexibility. For example, in one configuration each user can provide replays from up to three cameras. In another configuration, one operator can manage the replay from up to six cameras while a second operator is generating playlists and highlights packages for replay at natural breaks in the game. Highlights are melted to their non linear editing system post-game for finishing.

The college broadcast community depends on peer reviews and recommendations when selecting equipment, says Junaid Sheikh, CEO of Abekas. It's always gratifying when we hear of existing Mira users giving such glowing recommendations on the product to prospective customers.
