Director Eric D. Howell s Short Film, Strangers Screens at Santa Monica Film Festival (SMFF); Featuring Editorial & Post-Production From SPLICE

Director Eric D. Howell's short film, Strangers, has been selected to screen at the Santa Monica Film Festival (SMFF) this weekend. The film features Editorial by Clayton Condit and post-production by SPLICE .

Strangers screens at SMFF on Saturday, January 10th at 4 p.m. at the historic Aero Theater (1328 Montana Ave, Santa Monica). Starring James Denton and Marta Milans, Strangers is a novella film of intrigue about two broken characters who awkwardly meet at a crossroad where they touch on the possibility of love. The story plays as a symphonic poem around two reticent people in an expansive and isolated setting. This is a story about the choice between atonement or demise, says Director Eric D. Howell. Ascension of descent. To live with guilt, or to seek redemption. Two people hiding truth from the other. The setting for the story is a purgatory. A place they have each arrived at to examine past decisions. Each of them interrupt the other. This interruption gives the story a turning point that shifts the viewer from the objective to a subjective point of view. Short films in particular allow for this kind of thematic experimentation and drive our desire to make and watch them.

We are thrilled that Eric's latest short film, under the guidance of Producer Jillian Nodland [of Picture Factory] has hit the festival circuit, notes Barb Condit, SPLICE Partner. After our collaboration with Eric on his first short film, the award-winning Ana's Playground,' we were thrilled to work with him again on Strangers.' It's an extraordinary film.

Strangers is a follow-up film from the team behind the internationally, award-winning short Ana's Playground. (www.anasplayground.com) Writer/Director Eric D. Howell and his team received top honors at 20+ festivals around the world. Ana's Playground won four Academy Qualifying festivals and went on to be short-listed for an Academy Award. Ana's Playground continues to be screened around the world by a variety of organizations and educational institutions including Right to Play, The Search for Common Ground, and the United Nations Security Council. The film is scheduled to be screened as part of a panel discussion at a United Nations (U.N.) Conference in Berlin later this month.

The SMFF received just under 2000 films this year for submission at the 2015 festival. Approximately 1500 of those were shorts. According to Festival Director David Katz, 24 films were selected, including two features including one feature documentary. 22 shorts were selected for this year's festival, including two short docs, three international films, and one animated film. Just 1.2% of the films submitted will screen at this year's festival, which takes place on Saturday, January 10th and Sunday, January 11th with screening venues at the Aero Theater and the Martin Luther King (MLK) Theater . An Awards Party takes place on Saturday evening.

Additionally, Director Eric D. Howell and Editor Clayton Condit are in the midst of wrapping production in Italy on Howell's first feature film Voice From the Stone. Produced by Dean Zanuck, SPLICE is completing editorial on the film and all post-production. Voice From the Stone is scheduled for a theatrical release later this year.

Lastly, the creative team at SPLICE collaborated with Howell and Nodland on a PSA campaign last year for American Cancer Society entitled Smashing Cancer. SPLICE completed the post-production; including editorial, visual effects, design, graphics, animation, sound design and final mix. The PSA campaign was donated to the American Cancer Society (ACS) to help promote the organization's 5,000 plus annual Relay For Life events.A trio of heartfelt and gripping real life stories -- John, Latasha and David tell us how they are standing up to cancer, and invite others to join them in the fight. http://splice.tv/pith/?pith=american-cancer-society
