The Bioscope Independent Cinema in Johannesburg has a diverse film offering for audiences this November.

VEVE

Set in Kenya, the film directed by Simon Mukali and written by Natasha Likimani documents the double-crossing lives of those trading in khat or veve , a mildly narcotic crop grown in the Meru region of the country.

The film stars Kenyan actress Lizz Njagah as the lonely wife of corrupt politician Amos played by Lowry Odhiambo, whose attempts to edge a competitor out of the khat business for his own greed-fuelled gains forces his wife to find solace in local bad-boy Kenzo, not knowing that her new lover is intent on destroying her husband.

Veve starts on 31 October, tickets will cost R45.00.

HALLOWEEN ON HALLOWEEN

Presented in partnership with Horrorfest. John Carpenters 1978 classic Halloween will screen on the big screen 31 October at 22h00.

Tickets will cost R50.00 and will include a special Halloween shot on entry!

KIEZKINO PRESENTS: GERHARD RICHTER PAINTING

KiezKino is a monthly event at The Bioscope Independent Cinema hosted in partnership with the Goethe Institut Johannesburg. Once a month, a film from the Goethe film archive will be presented at The Bioscope and the concept is to both discover and screen German cinema and also draw on the idea of the kiezkino or neighbourhood cinema.

Gerhard Richter Painting is a documentary on the German artist that, for the first time in decades, is able to access him in his studio.

Gerhard Richter Painting will screen on 4 November, tickets will cost R15.00.

SPECIAL SCREENING OF Bj rk: BIOPHILIA LIVE

Biophilia Live is a concert film by Nick Fenton and Peter Strickland that captures the human element of Bj rks multi-disciplinary multimedia project: Biophilia.

Recorded live at Bj rks show at Londons Alexandra Palace in 2013, the film features Bj rk and her band performing every song on Biophilia and more using a broad variety of instruments - some digital, some traditional and some completely unclassifiable.

Biophilia Live will screen on 7 November, tickets will cost R90.00.

THE BIOSCOPE OUTDOOR CINEMA PRESENTS: SPRING BREAKERS

The Bioscope Independent Cinema and Jameson s Irish Whiskey present a special cinema series. The films will be screened in all the interesting rooftops and spaces across Johannesburg starting at The Beach (68 Juta Street. Braamfontein).

We return in November with Harmony Korine s Spring Breakers. Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, and James Franco, the film centres around a group of sexy college girls who s plan to fund their spring break getaway by burglarizing a fast food shack gets them into some trouble.

The series starts on 12 November, doors open at 18h30. Tickets will cost R150.00 and includes a Jameson s Welcome Cocktail and bottomless popcorn.

SPECIAL SCREENING OF: THE NOBLE FAMILY

In Nosotros los Nobles, a successful construction mogul, Germ n Noble, realises that his adult children are spoiled beyond belief, he stages a fake company bankruptcy and seizes of all their assets tricking them into believing that they have become fugitives of the law.

Screening on 30 October, tickets will cost R45.00.
