As reported by TMZ the oldest member of K-pop phenomenon BTS Kim Seok-jin joined the South Korean military on 13 December under the country's strict conscription laws.

With a newly shaven head, Jin reported for 18 months of mandatory national service at a training facility in the Gyeonggi Province, close to the border with North Korea.

The star, shared a photo of himself over the weekend with a new cut, and quipped: Ha ha ha. It's cuter than I had expected, and on Tuesday, he added: It's time for a curtain call.

Jin's new harcut as he enters the military service. Image Twitter @weverse BTS PURSUING INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS Despite the freezing snowy weather, Journalists and fans followed the Korean star to his boot camp in the eastern county of Yeoncheon, guarded by front-line troops against North Korea.

BTS announced their plans to join the mandatory military service in October, starting with their oldest member Jin who turned 30 on 4 December after postponing his service for the maximum time allowed.

The other BTS members aged between 25 and 30 will all eventually do the same, and currently the group is pursuing individual projects and will reunite in 2025. Initially South Korea required about two years' military service from all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28, but the law was later revised in 2019 to allow signing up until the age of 30.

During the training the recruits are brought to gas chambers filled with chemical gas to test their endurance.
