The Premier League has reportedly reached an agreement with Sky Sports so that clubs can defer payment a collective rebate worth more than £170 million until the 2021-22 season.

It's believed clubs in the top-tier English league could lose a minimum of £330 million in TV rights to domestic and international broadcasters, even if the season is completed.

According to The Athletic, the figures are based on the Premier League season resuming on 12th June and concluding by 26th July. On that basis, The Athletic says, domestic broadcasters would be owed £223 million with international broadcaster partners due £107 million.

However, the Premier League is said to have agreed a settlement with Sky that will see it pay its TV rights fees on time for the remainder of 2019-20 and the 2020-21 season.

The broadcaster will then claim its rebate during the 2021-22 season, at which point the League hopes that it and the clubs will be in a better financial position. The deal still needs to be signed-off by the clubs.

The Premier League is also expected to agree a similar deal with BT Sport.

However, it is thought that a payment of £107 million will still need to be paid in full to international broadcasters by the end of July 2020.
