Live from Super Bowl LI: NEP Steps Up On Super Sunday for World Feed, Halftime Show

NEP's presence at Super Bowl LI ramps up today as the company's EN1 unit will be home to the world feed production and Denali California will be used to produce Lady Gaga's halftime performance. Mike Werteen, NEP co-president, Mobile Units, U.S. division, says that the Super Bowl is always a tremendous event for the company even when its units are not involved in the domestic game production (Fox Sports has relied on ND1 all week for studio activities at Discovery Green Park).

We know that EN1 will play an important part and although we aren't doing the domestic feed I just saw [Game Creek Video President] Pat Sullivan and wished him good luck because for the next two years we will be in the same position, says Werteen. You always want to make sure the Super Bowl production goes as well as planned.

NEP is also on hand with a more robust fiber system for NFL Films and the world feed needs.

We spent a lot of time and resources on that since the last Super Bowl as it is important for NFL Films to properly monitor the quality of the feeds, says Werteen. So we worked with them on a system that is robust, offers easy access, and helps them monitor who is requesting feeds and how they get deployed throughout the compound.

The Super Bowl is definitely at the top of the list of events that are growing in terms of the production technical needs, staff, and the amount of programming. And that trend does not seem to be changing soon.

I've been having conversations with a number of clients that are here and there is still a sense to do it better than last year and keep growing, says Werteen. And they are thinking not only about the technology but how they are going to display the content and on what devices.

NEP played the role of technical services provider at last year's Super Bowl and since that time the company has continued to evolve and change, most notably on the international front.

Last year was a fabulous year based on two things: growth of the company internationally and the diversity of products that we offer up, says Werteen. Everybody across our world-wide network is thrilled that we are involved in the Super Bowl and other events like the NBA All-Star Game in two weeks.
