The new version of Viz Media Engine 5.5 release contains several new features, extensions to new third-party systems, improved system management tools, a look and feel makeover and resolution of stability issues.
The following new features have been added to Viz Media Engine since version 5.5.0:
Stacks - The stack presents Viz Media Studio users with a lightweight work area for simplifying operations like moving media from one asset to another, or for ordering the same operation on all assets in the stack, in a single stroke. Any asset type such as video, images or audio can be added to the stack. Once media is on the stack, routine tasks like multiple transfers or deletions are presented as action buttons, speeding-up everyday workflows. Essentially, the stack is an attractive new way of working effectively with multiple assets.
Adobe Premiere Pro CC Full Mac Support - Premiere Pro professionals on both Mac and Windows get connected to the wealth of assets held in Viz Media Engine. With Vizrt's Premiere Pro extension panel, editors can search for and access media without leaving Premiere Pro.
Viz Media Engine assets can be rapidly located and added to a sequence or selected project, and immediately opened with no time delays for file transfers. When an edit session involves old raw material or projects that contain assets now stored in a tape library, Viz Media Engine automatically restores and relinks all required media and sequences. From within the Viz Media Studio web-browser, users can launch Vizrt's proxy-based editors Viz PreCut and Viz EasyCut, pre-edit and then send their proxy-based edit decisions lists (EDLs) to Premiere. The EDL arrives in Premiere as a sequence, linked to high-resolution media with effects, enabling professional editors to complete the edit. The cooperation between Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Viz Media Engine delivers a powerful, rapid and efficient tool for workgroup video editing. Transfer Plugins - Transfer plugins can be registered in the Viz Media Engine, enabling an elegant, uncomplicated method for associating a variety of customized operations with a media transfer. This is useful when designing new integrations or when communicating with third-party systems during operations involving media movement or rendering. At media transfer, the registered plugin is accessed, and can execute specialized tasks, such as specific business logic. Currently, transfer plugins are customized by Vizrt at system deployment, and in the future will be openly available in the Viz Media Engine APIs.
Language Support - Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Thai language is fully supported in Viz Media Studio and associated Vizrt client applications. This is in addition to US English and British English, already supported since version 5.0.
Break-segmentation Rendering - An asset with defined break-segments (typically inserted for commercial breaks) can be automatically rendered in Viz Media Engine. This simplifies the transfer of break-segmented video to a video server, or other third-party systems, which does not handle break-segmentation defined as metadata.
Drag-and-drop Import - In addition to importing media through a drop folder, an operator can create a placeholder in Viz Media Studio and then drag-and-drop a file from their desktop to this placeholder. For example operators can drag-and-drop an image from their desktop to a Viz Media Studio placeholder.
SubRip Support - SubRip (.SRT) files, used for closed captioning or subtitles, can be imported to an asset either through a drop-folder or dropped onto the Viz Media Studio web browser. With Vizrt's proxy-based tools, changes made to media with an associated SubRip file, automatically resynchronize the closed captioning of the edited media.
Additional High-level Features
Poster Frames - As the default first frame of a Viz Media Studio clip is often black or not representative of the asset, users can now manually select which frame to display as the poster frame for the asset. This manually selected poster frame then replaces the asset's default poster frame and shows up in search results and other views.
JavaScript-driven Menu Items - Menu items can now include JavaScript that runs when the menu item is selected. This approach provides a very simple and flexible tool for adding new menu items to the Viz Media Studio, initiating a customized workflow. For example, the user can be presented with a menu option for queuing media for quality control. JavaScript-driven menu actions are currently customized by Vizrt at system deployment, and in the future will be openly available through the Viz Media Engine APIs.
Ingest API - The newly added Ingest API enables scheduling of incoming feeds through Viz Dart to one or more Recording Units. Typically, these ingests are associated with a previously created Viz Media Engine Asset Entry placeholder.
For additional new high-level features, an overview of supported file formats, installation notes and documentation see the Viz Media Engine 5.5 release notes.
