COST AVOIDANCE, REVENUE GENERATION AND SERVICE QUALITY KEY TOPICS ON EXPANSIVE SCTE CABLE-TEC EXPO WORKSHOPS AGENDA
Tracks to Focus on B2B, Energy, Next-Generation Services and Wireless/Wireline Delivery
APRIL 7, 2015 (Exton, PA) Technologies that can help cable operators avoid costs, deploy new revenue-generating services and increase the quality and reliability of services throughout the evolving cable network will dominate the workshops agenda announced today by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) for SCTE Cable-Tec Expo this fall in New Orleans.
Expo workshops will zero in on topics that provide material operational and business benefits to the cable community across five tracks:
Business-to-Business Solutions and Energy 2020;
Next-Generation Services;
Wireless and Home Networks;
Wireline: RF; and
Wireline: Fiber and Core
The 35 workshops each of which is expected to include two deep-dive sessions by subject matter experts -- will be conducted Tuesday through Friday, Oct. 13-16, at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The workshops agenda was created by the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2015 Program Committee chaired by Balan Nair, executive vice president and CTO of Liberty Global.
"Management of energy costs and consumption, deployment of new business, Wi-Fi and cloud-based services, and implementation of DOCSIS 3.1, CCAP, fiber and other service delivery architectures all will significantly impact cable's bottom line in the years ahead," said SCTE Fellow Daniel Howard. "Balan Nair and our Program Committee have created an agenda that will help our workforce connect the dots between technology implementation and the tangible results that can resonate at all levels of cable operator management."
Among the topics to be addressed at Expo 2015 workshops will be:
How operators' DOCSIS footprints and network functions virtualization (NFV) strategies can drive the availability of new business-to-business services that offer the features and reliability required by today's enterprise customers.
How accurate audits, new technologies and alternative energy sources can reduce energy costs and consumption, particularly in the access network, which is a key contributor to cable's overall energy bill.
How operators can leverage an array of technologies for delivery of next-generation services, including: automated and continuous testing, integration and deployment; downloadable conditional access; the evolution from quality of service (QoS) to quality of experience (QoE); network virtualization; cloud-based STB functionality; migration to all-IP video distribution; over-the-top (OTT) video considerations; and opportunities around the Internet of Things (IoT).
How the industry can optimize LTE, public Wi-Fi and wireless home networks to deliver services with the quality, the reliability and the flexibility needed to meet customer needs.
Current and future considerations for DOCSIS 3.1 and CCAP deployments, including: deployment readiness; IP video traffic engineering; testing, monitoring and proactive network maintenance; virtualization; DOCSIS upstream optimizations; and distributed CCAP architectures.
Fiber and other advanced architectures that can expand the capacity of core networks and regional links, as well as strategies to evolve access networks including migration from HFC to Fiber Deep or FTTP installations as data traffic continues to grow.
