PlayBox Technology Powers Playout at HNN 4x7

Dehradun, India, February 6, 2017: HNN 24x7 has chosen a complete PlayBox Technology AirBox Neo system for playout of its round-the-clock news channel. The system was designed, installed and commissioned by PlayBox Technology in partnership with Delhi-based broadcast system integrator Avtech Digital Equipments. Located at Dehradun, capital city of Uttarakhand state, HNN 24x7 transmits via satellite and digital terrestrial networks in central India. It is also accessible to a global audience via the internet.

PlayBox Technology has enabled us to achieve our goal of creating a highly efficient and news channel combining live transmissions with meticulously crafted file-based content, comments HNN 24x7 founder and chief executive officer Amit Sharma. Starting from a clean slate gave us the huge advantage that we could select the best infrastructure currently available both in terms of reliability and operator-friendly functionality. The entire process of system design, integration, commissioning and staff training went very smoothly and we are now getting into the full routine of actually running the channel.

This was a complete new-build project including two multi-camera news production studios, voiceover suites, technical control rooms and apparatus rooms, details Avtech managing director Rajiv Puri. The core playout infrastructure includes two ProductionAirBox servers plus an AirBox Neo channel-in-a-box system which is populated with DataBox Neo, ListBox Neo and SafeBox Neo. These are integrated with a dual mix/effects vision switcher, newsroom automation, editors, signal codecs, a master router, live backpack units and interfaces.

HNN 24x7 joins a very long list of broadcasters making highly successful use of PlayBox Technology solutions, adds PlayBox Technology president Don Ash. AirBox Neo forms the basis of a highly adaptable platform which can be configured to match practically and scale any style of operation ranging from a single channel to an entire multi-language bouquet. Our solutions give broadcasters the flexibility to add new channels or new operational features as their business expands, and to embrace new transmission standards whenever they choose.

ProductionAirBox Neo is a media manipulation and delivery system with the near-zero latency demanded for the fast-paced work environment of broadcast news, sports and live production. A wide range of file formats and resolutions can be imported into the playlist, with up to 16 digital audio channels to accommodate multi-channel multi-language programmes. The feature set also includes forward or reverse shuttle at up to 32x speed, mixing of different video resolutions and formats in a single playlist, logical content trimming, multi-channel audio output, plus support for a wide variety of compression standards and media containers. The NewTek Network Device Interface open protocol for IP production workflow is supported.

AirBox Neo adds UHD capabilities to the core PlayBox Technology content playout system which can handle UHD, HD and SD in a single server. It incorporates a streaming input supporting HTTP, HTTP Secure, UDP, RTMP, MMS, MMSH and YouTube. An integral RTMP Streaming Output allows easy web streaming. AirBox Neo comes with a virtual output supporting multiple instances. Recent enhancements include the ability to add timecode to MOV files. Multiple DeckLink cards can be used for multi-channel ad insertion. Enhancements have also been made to the clip trimmer and audio level control. AirBox Neo is designed for 24/7 unattended operation. It can also be operated manually, including the ability to handle live-to-air throughput.
