Next generation healthcare tech showcased at 3rd Annual Innovation Summit in London

London, UK - From the potential uses of Google GlassTM in operating theatres to the world's first digital PET/CT scanner with Digital Photon Counting Technology, designed to significantly improve precision in cancer diagnosis, the 3rd Annual Philips Healthcare Innovation Summit is showcasing a variety of new innovations that will help mould the future of the NHS.

Opening today at the King's Fund in London, more than a dozen breakthrough health care innovations are being unveiled over the course of the two day event, including:

A proof-of-concept demonstration of how Google GlassTM has the potential to significantly improve surgical efficiencies.

World's first digital imaging innovations - Vereos digital PET/CT system, and IQon Spectral CT - both designed to help clinicians get answers first time around so that they can deliver accurate and more confident diagnoses to patients.

eICU - an evolution in telehealth technology that keeps 24/7 tabs on critically ill patients in NHS hospitals.

Prostaid - a prototype web-based tool designed to help tailor care for people newly diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Medication Adherence tools for identifying non-adherence of medical regimes with the aim of helping improve medicine management of people living with chronic disease.

Whilst the last decade was defined by the transformative impact of innovation in consumer technology - from the rise of social media to the birth of the smartphone, the next 10 years will be all about the impact of technology on people's health and wellbeing, commented Neil Mesher, Managing Director of Philips Healthcare UK&I. With the many economic challenges facing healthcare providers across the world, including the NHS, technologies like the eICU and Google GlassTM have the potential to deliver meaningful improvements in care which are not only cost efficient, but will ultimately help to save lives.

This year's Innovation Summit will bring together industry leaders, scientists and academics from across the globe, to debate how innovative technologies can help the NHS deliver value-based' care - the answer to the key priorities for change identified by the King's Fund in 20131 in health care transformation, including more proactive self-management of chronic diseases, empowerment of patient, and the need for more integrated models of care.

The Summit also coincides with the celebration of the 100th year of Philips Research, which over the last century has been responsible for developing dozens of groundbreaking healthcare innovations such as the X-ray tube with radiation protection in 1925, and a range of connected, remote and bedside patient monitoring solutions in more recent years.
